Job Opportunity: Hospice Registered Nurse (RN)

Location: Rockford, Illinois
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Summary

Provide hospice nursing care to patients in their final stages of life, including those with cancer, end-stage COPD, CHF, CKD, Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, ALS, and liver disease. Manage pain and symptoms, demonstrate critical thinking, and provide compassionate care.

Required Qualifications

Active Illinois RN license (or application process initiated)
Minimum 1 year hospice nursing experience (higher experience requirement confirmed)
BLS (AHA) certification
BSN preferred
Experience with EPIC electronic health records system
Knowledge of pain management medications and symptom control at end of life
Experience with central lines
Ability to work flexible hours and handle pronounced deaths compassionately

Work Details

Patient load: Approximately 5 visits per day
Equipment: Trilogy ventilator, BiPAP, CPAP
Shift: 8-hour shifts, 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM with 30-minute unpaid lunch
Weekend: On-call backup every 6 weeks (Saturday and Sunday, 8:00 AM – 8:00 PM)
Holidays: Required to work 1 holiday
Call: Weekday on-call from 11:00 PM – 8:00 AM, approximately once per week; minimum 2 weekend backup shifts required
Orientation: Up to 10 shifts (about 2 weeks)
Dress code: Clinician provides own solid color scrubs, clean and hole-free
Supervision: Clinical supervisor available 24/7
Staffing ratio: 1 home health aide per 1.5 RNs

Additional Notes

Must reside locally during contract
Drug-free workplace with mandatory negative drug screen
Local rate adjustments apply for clinicians living within 50 miles
Orientation hours are non-billable (12 hours guaranteed)
