Job Opportunity: 3N Cardiac Telemetry Nurse (Unit 14)
Location: Parkersburg, West Virginia
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Unit Overview
- Unit: 3N - Cardiac Telemetry (Cost Center 14)
- Beds: 43 total (semi-private), with 9-10 private rooms
- Patient Types: Post heart catheterizations, TR Bands, CHF, COPD, post pacers (no external pacers), medical management or awaiting CABG consult, arrhythmias
- Patient Acuity: Moderate, with occasional use of supportive respiratory therapy (Bipap, Cpap, High Flow oxygen)
Staffing & Ratios
- Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: Average 1:5, can flex up to 1:6
- Patient Care Technicians (PCTs): Goal ratio 1:8, can flex up to 1:12-18 depending on call-offs
- Charge Nurse: 24/7 coverage; night charge always takes patient assignment; travelers may be asked to take charge if comfortable
- Monitor Techs: Present; RN’s must be able to read cardiac strips as unit is central monitor station for North Tower
Required Certifications & Skills
- Certifications: BLS (AHA) and ACLS (AHA) required
- Skills:
- Ability to read cardiac strips
- Comfortable managing cardiac telemetry patients
- RN titrates only Heparin drips (Cardizem & Amiodarone are not titrated; occasional titration of Lasix or Bumex)
Experience Requirements

Scheduling & Work Environment

- 3rd day working independently

- Travelers are included in float rotation; may float anywhere in hospital including ICU (rare) and Stepdown, but only assigned patients within skillset
- Dress code: Royal blue scrubs; scrub jackets allowed but no hoodies or sweatshirts
- Unit culture emphasizes teamwork and fast-paced environment with 8-12 admissions and discharges daily
- RNs expected to perform their own admissions and discharges but encouraged to ask for help if needed
- Unit is accustomed to new grads and willing to teach
COVID-19 Policy
- Fully vaccinated required (2 Moderna/Pfizer shots or 1 J&J) or approved medical/religious exemption
