Job Opportunity: Alternate Birthing Center Nurse

Location: Galesburg, Illinois
Specialty: Family Birthing Center (Labor & Delivery, Postpartum, Nursery)

Contract Details

• Length: 13 weeks
• Shift: 7 PM – 7 AM (36 hours per week)
• Weekend Requirement: Every third weekend
• Holiday Requirement: Every other holiday if it falls within contract period
• Call/Standby: No call or standby requirement
• Floating: No floating required

Unit Information

• Unit: Family Birthing Center
• Beds:

  • 9 Labor & Delivery rooms (4 main labor rooms, 5 postpartum beds convertible to labor rooms)
  • 1 OR suite
  • 2 triage beds
  • 5 postpartum beds
• Births: 1-5 births per day; approximately 575-650 births per year
• Nurse-to-Patient Ratios: Follow AWHONN guidelines
• Common Patient Types:

  • Level II nursery (neonates 32 weeks and up)
  • Patients with preeclampsia, hypertension, gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM), BMI up to 50
• Providers: OB/Neonatologist on 24/7 call, not always in-house
• Support Staff: OB techs, nurse aides, surgical techs available
• Equipment: CPAP available for neonates; no vents (babies transferred if needed)
• Monitoring: Telemetry available; nurses read strips; EFM system is OBIX

Required Certifications

• Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP)
• Basic Life Support (BLS)
• Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)

Experience & Skills

• Years of Specialty Experience Required: Not explicitly stated; assume minimum 2 years in L&D or related specialty based on typical standards
