Labor and Delivery RN Travel Assignment

Location: Boise, Idaho
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Details

  • Specialty: Labor and Delivery
  • Shift Length: 12-hour shifts
  • Unit: Labor and Delivery (L&D), Postpartum, Antepartum, and L&D OR
  • Beds:
    • 16 L&D beds
    • 13 Antepartum beds (high-risk unit)
    • 8 Triage beds
    • 32 Postpartum beds (Mother Baby Care Unit on another floor)
  • Deliveries: Approximately 320-400 per month (4,194 in 2023)
  • OR Suites for C-Sections: 3
  • Floating: Required to float to Meridian and Nampa hospitals and to Antepartum unit

Required Certifications

  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
  • AWHONN Fetal Monitoring Courses
  • STABLE Certification

Experience Requirements

  • Minimum 3 years Labor and Delivery experience (higher value from description and additional info)
  • Skills in:
    • Pre-term labor
    • C-sections and recoveries
    • High-risk patients
    • LDR (Labor, Delivery, Recovery)
    • Circulating in the OR
  • Experience with common diagnoses: preeclampsia, placenta previa, twins, diabetics
  • Ability to titrate drips such as Pitocin and Insulin

Staffing and Support

  • Charge nurse present on each shift (does not take patient assignments unless absolutely necessary)
  • Certified Surgical Techs (CSTs) on every shift
  • OB Laborist available 24/7
  • Neonatologists available 24/7
  • Anesthesia (CRNA) available 24/7
  • No Tele/Monitor Techs on unit; RNs do not read their own strips
  • Electronic Fetal Monitoring system: Centricity Perinatal (GE)

Scheduling and Work Environment

  • Shifts: 06:50-19:20 and 18:50-07:20
  • Scheduling based on unit needs; travelers may be scheduled on weekends as needed
  • No call or standby requirements
  • Scrubs provided
  • Orientation: 1 shift in each area (Labor & Delivery, Antepartum, L&D OR)

Additional Notes

  • Floating includes sitting with patients on other floors and working in high-risk Antepartum unit
  • Follow AWHONN guidelines for nurse-to-patient ratios
