ICU Registered Nurse (RN) - Travel Assignment in Illinois

Job Details

• Location: Freeport, Illinois
• Contract Length: 13 weeks
• Shift: 12-hour shifts (07:00-19:30 or 19:00-07:30)
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
• Holiday Requirement: Holiday rotation
• Scheduling: Census-based staffing; at least one nurse on duty even without patients
• Floating: Required to float to MedSurg, Telemetry, and ER with a full patient load
• Scrub Color: Any professional scrub color allowed
• Orientation: Department-specific orientation of 2 shifts (12 hours each) with documentation support

Unit Information

• Unit Type: ICU with 8 beds
• Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:2-3 (some patients lower acuity)
• Common Diagnoses: Sepsis, general medical and surgical cases, stroke (TNK), diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA), pneumonia (PNA), alcohol withdrawal, post-catheterization recovery (radial/femoral sites)
• Procedures Not Included: No cardiovascular OR (CVOR), no continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT), no abdominal surgery cases
• Code Blue: ICU nurses expected to run codes; other ICU nurses provide coverage during codes
• Telemetry: Unit has telemetry attached; RNs responsible for monitoring strips (no monitor tech)
• Equipment: Respiratory therapy equipment available; GE Carescape and Airstrip technology used
• Support Staff: Care support, unit secretary, and CNA available when acuity warrants; CNA often cross-trained as unit secretary
• In-House Coverage: Hospitalist available 24/7 (in-house during the day)

Required Certifications & Licenses

• Illinois RN license required
• BLS (Basic Life Support) certification
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) certification
• NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale) certification

Experience & Skills

• Minimum 2+ years ICU nursing experience required
• Experience running Code Blue events preferred
• Phlebotomy skills are a plus
• ICU nurses expected to titrate drips (e.g., Levo, Neo, Propofol, Fentanyl, Precedex, Insulin, TNK) and mix some medications
• Meditech electronic health record experience is a plus
• Prior travel experience highly preferred

• No call or standby requirement for agency nurses
• Charge nurse role includes assignment and nursing supervision duties
• Travelers with previous employment at any related facility must disclose it for a background check

This position is ideal for experienced ICU RNs comfortable with critical care responsibilities, including code management, medication titration, and working in a dynamic ICU environment with telemetry monitoring.
