Position Details
- Specialty: Registered Nurse (RN)
- Location: Richmond, Virginia
- Employment Type: Travel
- Contract Length: 13 weeks
- Start Date: Must start on the 5th of the month
Unit Information
- Unit: 5Atrium Ortho Joint Spine
- Beds: 25
- Patient Ratios: 5-6 patients per nurse
- Staffing:
- 4-5 Nurses per shift
- 1-3 Patient Care Technicians (PCTs)
- Department Secretary available 7am-7pm (3 days/week currently, hiring for 6 days/week coverage)
- Type of Patients: Post-operative orthopedic patients (hip, knee, spine, other orthopedic procedures)
- Equipment: General nursing equipment for med-surg and orthopedic post-op care
- Documentation System: Meditech
Schedule & Floating
- Schedule: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (3x12s), every other weekend required
- Block Scheduling: Not guaranteed
- Floating: Contract nurses will float to similar med-surg units as needed
Patient Care & Experience
- Bedside shift report required
- Safety rounding: 1 hour during day shifts, 2 hours during night shifts
- Use of AIDET communication framework for all patient interactions
- Emphasis on treating patients with courtesy, respect, and keeping them informed
Required Certifications & Skills
- Certifications: BLS (Basic Life Support) required
- Experience: Must have experience caring for post-operative patients
- Preferred: Experience with Meditech documentation system
- Advanced Skills: None required
- Procedures: No specific bedside or unit procedures required
Dress Code
- Navy scrubs
- Any closed-toed shoes
