Role Summary

Cares for patients before, during, and after angiography, interventional, angiographic cardiac catheterization procedures, and other diagnostic testing and procedures.
Scrubs in for procedures and assists other members of the cardiac catheterization laboratory.

Required Qualifications

Valid RN license in Michigan
Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
Cardiac Cath Lab (1 year of experience)
Cardiac Cath Lab experience within the last year
BLS issued by American Heart Association
ACLS issued by American Heart Association
Experience with Maclab (hemodynamics)
Basic knowledge of IR & Vascular
Impella experience
Knowledge and operation of intraaortic balloon pump
Interventional Radiology experience
Experience with Epic

Clinical Responsibilities

Performs nursing care of the catheterization/angiography cardiovascular patient.
Conducts cardiac diagnostic nursing procedures according to department protocol.
Assists in stress echocardiogram, routine treadmill exam, nuclear and pharmacologic stress testing, tilt table, echocardiograms (NS/Definity), cardioversions, and transesophageal echocardiograms.
Assists with prep, procedure, and recovery for other interventional radiology procedures.
Evaluates and screens patients for safety prior to testing.
Provides sedation monitoring in accordance with hospital policy and documents appropriately.
Performs Holter monitor application, Event monitor application, Ambulatory blood pressure monitor application, and pacemaker interrogations.
Inserts PICC lines and functions as a vascular access expert.
Operates equipment and manages supplies including cardiac output, hemodynamic, pacemakers/ICDs, intraaortic balloon pump, crash cart, IV pumps, defibrillators, point of care glucometer/blood sugar testing, stress machines, and other nursing supplies.
Records pertinent information on appropriate data sheets.
Develops, reviews, and enhances cardiovascular education materials and programs.

Decent patient ratios, good education availability, adequate management, good benefits/somewhat decent health insurance

Cons

Subpar pay (non-competitive with regional hospitals). Starting pay for a RN is 32.90 per hour in 08/2026. Other area hospitals like covenant and McLaren Bay City start out in the $40+/hr range. Lots of drama with coworkers, but that’s everywhere.
