Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (Medical Surgical)

Job Description

Specialty: Registered Nurse (Medical Surgical)
Required Years of Experience: 1 year (minimum)
First-time travelers accepted
Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
Locals not accepted (must be outside 50-mile radius)
Pending license not accepted
Holiday Time Off (RTO) Policy:
- If 1 holiday falls in assignment, expect to work it
- If 2 holidays, expect to work 1
- If 3 holidays, expect to work 2
Fast-paced inpatient surgical unit
Previous surgical experience required
Patient population includes pediatric surgical patients aged 12 and above (depending on procedure)
Surgical specialties include:
- General surgery
- Abdominal surgery
- Urological surgery
- Orthopedic surgery
- Hysterectomy
- Mastectomy
- Spine surgery
- Bariatric surgery
Block scheduling not guaranteed but grouping shifts may be possible

Certifications Required

BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA or ARC accepted
ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - Required for applicable units
PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) - Required if working with pediatric patients
Other certifications may be required depending on unit (e.g., NRP, TNCC)

Background and Compliance Requirements

Government-issued photo ID required
7-year criminal background check within 30 days of start
EPLS/GSA/SAM check within 30 days of start
HHS/OIG check within 30 days of start
Virginia State Police Background Check performed by facility
Fingerprinting via Virginia VSP National Criminal Background Check (effective 7/15/2025)
Drug Testing: Negative 10-panel drug test within 30 days of start (including marijuana; zero tolerance policy)
Physical Exam within 1 year of start, renewed annually
Immunizations and health documents required:
- Tdap vaccine within past 10 years
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
- MMR (Rubeola, Mumps, Rubella) - 2 vaccines or positive titer
- Hepatitis B - positive titer, vaccine series, or declination
- Varicella - 2 vaccines or positive titer
- Seasonal Flu Vaccination or approved exemption required annually during flu season (10/1 - 3/31)

Competencies and Documentation

Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam as applicable
Core competency exams and safety manual acknowledgements required
Facility-specific documents must be reviewed and signed prior to start, including:
