Job Description

• Work 8 or 10 hour variable day or mid shifts
• Pediatric Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) / Pre-Op setting
• Unit accepts first-time travelers

Requirements

• California Registered Nurse (RN) License
• AHA Basic Life Support (BLS) & Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certifications (AHA only, no placeholders)
• Minimum 2 years of Pediatric PACU/Pre-Op experience
• Trauma Level 2 experience required
• Preferred: Trauma Level 1 experience

Certifications & Competencies

• ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) required for many units, check if applicable
• BLS (Basic Life Support) required for all clinical positions
• PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) required for all pediatric units
• NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) required for select pediatric areas
• CHEMO certification required for Oncology and Pediatric Oncology (if applicable)
• Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) may be required for ER/ED
• Management of Assaultive Behavior (MAB) may be required for ER/ED
• Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) required for Psych positions
• Pass/Fail Telemetry and Medication Tests required on first day of orientation
• Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam required within 1 year of start (passing score 80%+)
• Unit-specific Competency Exam required within 12 months of start (passing score 80%+)
• Core Parts I, II, and III competency exams required annually (passing score 80%+)

Background & Verification

• 7-year criminal background check including specific Bay Area counties and nationwide checks
• EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start
• Education verification or copy of diploma/transcript required
• State license primary source verification within 30 days of start
• NURSYS verification required for RN licenses
• Drug testing: Standard 9-panel (excluding THC) within 30 days of start, re-run every 2 years

Health & Immunization Requirements

• Physical exam within 1 year of start including physician statement of fitness to work
• Fit mask test within 1 year of start (specific approved masks required), updated annually
• Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine within 10 years (declinations not accepted unless medically exempt)
• Two negative TB tests required: one within 1 year and one within 3 months of start
• Annual TB questionnaire required
• Immunity or vaccination documentation required for:

  • Rubeola (Measles)
  • Mumps
  • Rubella
  • Hepatitis B (titer, series, or declination)
  • Varicella
• Seasonal flu vaccination or facility-specific declination required during flu season
• COVID-19 vaccination requirements include booster 2 and seasonal vaccination or approved exemption

Additional Requirements

• Two supervisory references required, preferably from most recent employment
• Current and updated resume covering last 7 years of work history; gaps of 30+ days must be explained
• Unit-specific skills checklist updated annually
• Completion of facility-specific learning modules and orientation prior to working on the floor
• Completion of cybersecurity and HIPAA training modules with passing scores (80%+)
• Various facility-specific documents and attestations required prior to start (e.g., parking/uniform info, COVID questionnaires, religious or medical exemptions if applicable)

Prior Travel Experience

• Prior travel experience not required; unit accepts first-time travelers

This position is ideal for experienced Pediatric PACU nurses with trauma experience looking for a travel contract in California.
