Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (Medical Surgical)

Location: Kalamazoo, Michigan
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

  • Desired start date: February 23rd (may consider March 9th)
  • Must be available for the first two weeks of the assignment
  • Call Requirement: None
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
  • Holiday Requirement: As needed
  • Float: Will float to Medical/Surgical (MS), ICU, and Emergency Department (ED) waiting to take MS patients as needed

Experience Requirements

  • Minimum 1.5 years of MedSurg or Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience
  • Must be comfortable with patient ratios of 1:6
  • Michigan RN License required
  • BLS (AHA) and NIH Stroke Certification required
  • Strong post-surgical competencies required

Certifications Required

  • BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA only
  • NIH Stroke Certification (AHA, APEX, Bluecloud) - must be updated annually
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - required for ED and Rapid Response Team (RRT) roles
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) - required if working in Pediatrics or ED
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Procedure) - required if working in Pediatrics
  • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) - required for ED
  • EFM (Electronic Fetal Monitoring) - as applicable
  • CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) - as applicable
  • ENPC (Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course) - as applicable
  • Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement - required

Licensure & Verification

  • Michigan RN License with primary source online verification
  • Education verification required (copy of highest degree or diploma acceptable)
  • Background check within 45 days of start, including:
    • Criminal background (lifetime search from age 18)
    • SSN trace
    • National criminal and sex offender searches
    • Statewide searches
    • Education verification
    • Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) search for Home Health
  • Monthly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required
  • MI LARA fingerprinting required within 45 days of start for certain positions
  • Michigan Central Registry Clearance required for pediatric and certain specialty placements

Health & Safety Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start
  • Fit mask test (Honeywell DC365N95HC) required on-site for applicable roles
  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine proof required
  • Negative TB test (PPD or Q Gold/Tspot) within 30 days of start; if positive, chest x-ray and TB questionnaire required annually
  • Immunizations required:
    • Rubeola (Measles) - 2 vaccines or positive titer
    • Mumps - 2 vaccines or positive titer
    • Rubella - 2 vaccines or positive titer
    • Hepatitis B - titer, series, or declination form
    • Varicella - 2 vaccines or positive titer
  • Drug testing: 10-panel including Marijuana/THC within 30 days of start
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption required for candidates starting after November 1
