Job Details

• Shift: 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM
• Weekends: Every other weekend required
• Unit: Medical-Surgical/Telemetry (MS/Tele)
• Patient Population: Pediatric and adult patients
• Float: Will float to 4 Med unit and possibly ED depending on needs
• Patient Ratio: 1:6
• Unit Size: 40 beds
• Patient Types: Surgical patients (except cardiac), ortho, neuro, trauma, general surgery, urology, nephrology, oncology, dialysis, general medical, pediatrics

Required Experience & Skills

• Minimum 2 years of experience as a Registered Nurse
• Meditech EMR experience required (no exceptions)
• Pediatric and adult experience required
• Must be able to float between units as needed

Key Clinical Skills

• Use of Rapid Response/Code Teams
• Endocrine/Metabolic care
• Gastrointestinal care
• Genitourinary/Renal care
• IV therapy/Phlebotomy (starting IVs, etc.)
• Medication administration (Heparin, Insulin, PCA)
• Neurological/Psychiatric care (Pre/Post Neuro Surgery)
• Orthopedics (Ortho Trauma, Total Joint Replacements)
• Plastics (Surgical drains)
• Respiratory care (Chest tubes, CPAP/BiPAP, HFNC, Oral Suctioning)
• Isolation Precautions
• Wound Care/Wound Vac

Required Licenses & Certifications

• License: Kansas RN license or Compact RN license at time of submission
• Certifications:

  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course)

Additional Requirements

• Prior travel experience: Not accepted for first-time travelers (prior travel experience required)
• Uniform: Navy Blue scrub
• Must comply with facility's 100-mile radius mileage rule (case-by-case approval)
• Floating to multiple units including Medical and Emergency Department

Compliance & Documentation

• Background checks including 7-year criminal history, FACIS Level III, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG
• Proof of highest degree and education verification
• Physical exam within 60 days of start, signed by MD, DO, PA, or ARNP
• N95 Fit Test within 12 months (can be completed onsite)
• Immunizations and titers: TB test, MMR, Hepatitis B, Varicella, Flu vaccine or declination, COVID-19 vaccine or declination
• Drug screening: 9 or 10 panel drug screen within required timeframe
• References: 2 professional references within 2 years required for travel positions
• Completion of Healthstream modules prior to start (approx. 8 hours)
• Medication and competency exams as applicable

Summary

This is a 13-week travel contract for an experienced Registered Nurse with Meditech EMR proficiency, pediatric and adult care experience, and required certifications (BLS, TNCC). The role involves working night shifts with every other weekend required, floating between medical-surgical, telemetry, and emergency units. Prior travel experience is mandatory; first-time travelers will not be considered. The position requires compliance with extensive background checks, immunizations, and facility-specific training modules.
