Job Opportunity: Respiratory Therapist (CRT NICU) - Travel/Contract

Location: Charleston, West Virginia
Contract Length: 13 weeks (approximately 3 months)
Shift: 3x12 hour night shifts (7pm-7am), weekdays, some weekends, float
Facility may consider 4x10 shifts (discuss at interview)


Job Details

  • Specialty: Respiratory / Neuro Diagnostics
  • Required Experience: Minimum 1 year in specialty
  • First-time Travelers: Accepted
  • Weekend Work: Required
  • Floating: Floating within scope to meet facility needs, including sister facilities
  • On-call: None
  • Local Candidates: Accepted within 75-100 mile radius
  • Pending State License: Accepted
  • Guaranteed Hours: 72-80 hours per pay period

  • General Care
  • Adults and/or Pediatrics

Required Certifications

  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA only, no pending certs allowed
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA only, no pending certs allowed
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) - Required for Pediatrics, AHA only, no pending certs allowed
  • NALS (Neonatal Advanced Life Support) - Required for Pediatrics
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) - May be required for L&D, NICU, Mother/Baby (verify with unit)

Required Licenses

  • Valid Respiratory Therapist license (RRT or CRT) for West Virginia
  • Valid Driver’s License required
  • Primary source verification of state license must be completed within 30 days of start
  • Social Security Card required (legible)
  • Background checks including 7-year criminal history, sex offender search, and others as per facility policy

Health & Safety Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start, signed by a licensed provider, confirming good health and no limitations
  • Annual fit mask testing (N95 3M 1860 Small or Regular, Aura 9205) required; onsite fit testing may be accommodated
  • Tdap vaccination required (medical/religious exemptions accepted with approval)
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 3 months of start
  • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titers required
  • Hepatitis B vaccination or documented immunity required
  • Varicella vaccination or positive titers required
  • Drug screening within 30 days of start, including a full panel (amphetamines, barbiturates, cocaine, opiates, etc.)
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption required during flu season
  • COVID-19 vaccination is not mandatory; proof of vaccination or signed declination accepted

Additional Requirements

  • Must complete annual skills checklist for specialty
  • References: 1 reference required from a manager, supervisor, or charge nurse within the last year
  • Orientation: Every other Tuesday; 2-day orientation (Thursday and Friday) including Cerner Infusion Management training
  • Facility uses Cerner for charting
  • Scrubs provided
  • Free parking for travelers
  • RTO (Request Time Off) must be submitted two weeks prior and approved by manager
  • Pass/fail testing (EKG/Medication) required for nursing only (not applicable here)

Notes

  • Floating to sister facilities is required as needed
  • Block scheduling is open to accommodation but not guaranteed
  • Prior travel experience is not required for this position

This position offers an opportunity to work in a Level IV Trauma Center and major teaching hospital with a diverse patient population including adults and pediatrics in critical and general care settings.
