Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position

Location: Anchorage, Alaska
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Experience Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years of Registered Nurse experience
  • Prior travel experience: Not required (1st timers okay)

Patient Population

  • Adults
  • Geriatrics

Unit and Float Details

  • Float pool position
  • Units: Med-Surg, Telemetry, Discharge Lounge
  • Med-Surg/Discharge 12-bed unit
  • Med-Surg/Tele float for four 23-bed units
  • Med-Surg float 4-bed unit
  • 1:4 nurse-to-patient ratio

Schedule

  • Weekend coverage every other weekend required
  • Shift hours: 8, 10, or 12-hour shifts (12-hour shifts include additional 4 hours for breaks/lunches)
  • Guaranteed 40 hours per week

Required Certifications

  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) – required for Behavioral Health and ER specialties; must be issued within last 12 months

Orientation

  • 64 hours

Medication and Documentation Systems

  • Medication system: Pyxis
  • Documentation system: Cerner

Health and Compliance Requirements

  • Alaska State RN License required (compact license accepted with facility approval and proof of AK application)
  • Physical exam (renewed annually)
  • Fit mask test (approved facility mask, renewed annually, must be completed prior to arrival)
  • Immunizations and titers required:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap
    • Measles (Rubeola)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Hepatitis B (titer, vaccine series, or facility-specific declination)
    • Varicella
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within required timeframes
  • TB questionnaire (renewed annually)
  • Drug screening: Negative 10-panel within 30 days of start; new screen required if gap of 30+ days between assignments
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or medical exemption required during flu season (Oct 1 - Apr 1)
  • COVID-19 vaccination required (initial series or J&J dose; medical exemptions accepted with doctor’s letter; religious exemptions not accepted)

Competency Exams

  • Medication/Pharmacology competency exam
  • General competency exam
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam (required for ER specialty)

Background and Documentation Requirements

  • Standard background check within 90 days of start
  • Sex offender search within 30 days of start
  • Education verification not required for RN
  • Transcript/diploma not required for RN
  • Various facility-specific forms and agreements must be completed prior to start (e.g., confidentiality statement, badge form, personal data form)
  • Profile registration and completion of pre-boarding and onboarding tasks required within specified deadlines

Additional Notes

  • Position is at a Level II trauma center with 163 beds
  • Floating to multiple units requires flexibility and adaptability
  • 1st time travel nurses are welcome to apply
