Registered Nurse (RN) - Med/Surg

Location: Chicago, Illinois
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Position Details

• Specialty: Medical/Surgical (Med/Surg)
• Shift: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM - 7:30 AM)
• No block scheduling
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend (2 weekends per month)
• Return to Office (RTO): Maximum 5 days per month, no more than 2 consecutive days; no RTO on holidays, day before/after holidays, or weekends
• Mandatory float: All clinicians must float within their scope as required by the facility
• Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week

Experience & Certification Requirements

• Minimum 2 years recent acute care experience in Med/Surg
• Required Certifications:

  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) Certification (required for all RNs in Med/Surg and other specified units)
• Preferred Certification:

  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
• Locals accepted, preference for candidates living within 75 miles of the facility
• Pending licenses are not accepted

Required Documentation & Compliance

• Government-issued photo ID (driver’s license or state ID)
• Background check within 12 months covering all locations lived/worked/schooled in past 7 years, including aliases and SSN trace
• EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start
• Physical exam within 12 months, signed by PA, NP, DO, or MD
• Fit mask test (N95 or equivalent) within 1 year, required annually
• Immunizations and health screenings:

  • Tdap vaccine within 10 years or signed declination
  • Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 12 months, updated annually
  • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titer with booster if low titer
  • Hepatitis B series, titer, or signed declination
  • Varicella vaccination or positive titer with booster if low titer
• Drug screening: Negative 9-panel drug screen within 30 days of start, updated annually
• Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Oct 1 - Apr 1)
• COVID-19 vaccination is not required as of August 21, 2025

Competency Exams (Required for Start Dates On/After Specified Dates)

• Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (within 12 months of start)
• Color Blind Testing (within 12 months of start)
• General Competency Exam (within 12 months of start)

Additional Notes

• Candidates must complete facility-specific forms and rules of behavior as required
• References: 2 references within 2 years preferred but not mandatory to start
• Must be eligible to work in Illinois; no pending licenses accepted
• Illinois Health Care Worker Registry search required for aides and nursing assistants, not for RNs
