Registered Nurse (Stepdown/PCU RN) - Travel/Contract
Location: Springfield, Illinois
Facility Type: Acute Care Hospital, Level I Trauma Center, Magnet Facility
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Position Details
- Shift: 3x12 hour nights (18:45 - 07:15), option to accommodate 4x12s if preferred
- Experience Required: Minimum 1 year in relevant setting; first-time travelers not accepted
- Weekend Requirement: Work every other weekend
- License: Must have active Illinois RN license (no pending licenses accepted)
- Floating: May float within scope as needed
- Guaranteed Hours: Client may call off up to 36 hours per 13-week assignment without pay; on-call shifts count as called-off shifts
- Locals Accepted: Yes, no radius restrictions
- Charting System: Cerner preferred
- Scrub Color: Any solid color

- PCU/DOU/IMC/Stepdown units
Cardiac Monitoring & Emergency Response
- Interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
- Telemetry monitoring on unit
- Use of Rapid Response Teams
Cardiovascular Skills
- Post Cardiac Angiogram, MI, Cardiac Cath (pre/post), Cardiac Surgery (pre/post)
- Sheath removal, TR Band management
Gastrointestinal
- Feeding tube care and management
Genitourinary/Renal
- Pre/Post Hemodialysis management
- Renal failure care
IV Therapy / Phlebotomy
- Accessing ports, arterial line management
- Blood product administration
- Central line and PICC line care/management
- Phlebotomy, peripheral line care/management
- Starting IVs
Medication Management
- Heparin protocols
- Manage cardiac and vasoactive drips (no titration)
- PCA, procedural sedation administration

- External CPAP/BIPAP, high flow nasal cannula (HFNC)
- Interpretation of ABGs
- Nasal cannula, oxygen face masks, portable oxygen tanks
- Non-invasive airway management, tracheostomy management
Professional Skills
- Isolation precautions
- Wound care / wound vac
Certifications Required
- BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA (RQI acceptable)
- NIH certification required
- ACLS preferred (AHA RQI acceptable)
- PALS may be required based on unit/specialty
- State license primary source verification (NURSYS verification required)
- Competency exam required for clinical candidates
Additional Requirements
- Background checks including criminal, sex offender, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG within 30 days of start
- Education verification (degree or transcript)
- Physical exam within 1 year of start, including labs within 7 days of contract signing
- Fit mask test required (specific mask types accepted)
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 1 year
- Immunizations or proof of immunity for MMR (Rubeola, Mumps, Rubella), Hepatitis B, Varicella
- 9-panel drug screen within 30 days of start
- Flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required annually
- References: 2 professional references required
- Skills checklist required for clinical candidates
- Badge photo required before start
- Parking permit required (no cost)
Notes
- Teaching hospital experience preferred
- Level I trauma experience preferred
- Candidate must be able to accommodate return-to-office restrictions ideally no more than 5 days
- Candidate must be able to work every other weekend and float as needed within scope
- Orientation and safety manual acknowledgement required
This position is ideal for experienced RNs with telemetry and stepdown experience looking for a travel contract in a Level I trauma, Magnet-designated acute care hospital.
