Job Opportunity: Certified OR Tech / Surgical Tech (CST)

Job Description

• Work as a Surgical Tech in a community hospital surgery suite specializing in spine and joint surgeries, with a high volume of orthopedic cases and use of robotics (Zimmer systems).
• Schedule: Monday-Friday, 5x8 hour shifts, days.
• On-call required 2-3 times per month overnight (2200-0630) plus one weekend on-call per month (0700-1900 or 1900-0700).
• No float assignments.
• Documentation system: Meditech.
• Support available from multiple departments including Interpretation Services, Lift Teams, Pharmacy, Phlebotomy, Physical Therapy, Radiology, Rapid Response Teams, Respiratory Services, Social Services, and Unit Secretary.
• Provider coverage includes Intensivist, Hospitalist, Anesthesiologist, and CRNA available 24/7.

Required Qualifications

• Experience: Minimum 2 years of Surgical Tech experience required; 4 years preferred.
• Travel Experience: First-time travelers are accepted; prior travel experience is not required.
• Certifications:

  • BLS (AHA only) required.
• Skills: Must be proficient in a wide range of surgical procedures and OR skills including but not limited to:

  • Ambulatory OR, Community Hospital, General OR, Bariatrics, Endoscopic/Laparoscopic, ENT, Gynecology, Orthopedics (including spine and total joints), Robotics (Da Vinci Si Surgical System and others), Urology, Vascular, and many more complex surgical procedures.
  • Knowledge of fire safety, care of scopes & fiber optic equipment, case cart management, drills, electrosurgical units, aseptic technique, instrument processing, isolation precautions, laser and radiation safety, sharps safety, sterilization/disinfection, and universal protocol (time out) procedures.

Preferred Skills

• Experience with Hybrid OR, Pediatric General OR, Neuro/Spine, Plastics, Podiatry, advanced robotic systems (Da Vinci SP, Xi, Mako, Mazor, Monarch), and complex vascular and neurological surgeries.

Orientation & Other Details

• 16 hours of orientation provided.
• Scrubs provided.
• No local candidates within 50 miles accepted.

Compliance & Health Requirements

• Must pass background checks and drug screening.
• Required vaccinations and health screenings include:

  • COVID-19 vaccination plus booster or approved exemption.
  • Flu vaccination or mask requirement during flu season.
  • Tdap within 10 years or declination.
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray as applicable.
  • Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella titers or vaccinations.
• Fit testing for approved masks required prior to start.
• Must provide unexpired government-issued photo ID.

Additional Notes

• On-call shifts and weekend coverage required.
• No floating to other units.
• Meditech documentation system experience preferred.
• Supportive multidisciplinary team and 24/7 provider coverage.
