Job Opportunity: Surgical Services Scrub Tech (Travel/Contract)

Location: Lexington, South Carolina
Contract Length: 11 weeks

Position Summary

• Selects and places surgical instruments, supplies, and equipment during surgery.
• Scrubs and provides instruments, sutures, and other sterile supplies during surgical procedures.
• Prepares for surgical procedures by pulling appropriate instruments and supplies, ensuring instruments are in good working order, and reviewing case carts.
• Anticipates surgeon's needs by passing instruments, retracting tissue, and operating equipment during surgery.
• Demonstrates aseptic technique and universal precautions throughout procedures.
• Participates in counting sharps, instruments, and sponges; disposes of sharps and trash properly.
• Assists with OR turnover, stocking, replenishing supplies, and cleaning operating rooms.
• May perform assigned administrative tasks to support the department.

Work Schedule

• Shift: 6:30 AM – 3:30 PM
• Option to work 10-hour shifts Tuesday through Friday if preferred.
• No weekend shifts required.
• Availability to take some late assignments is needed.

Requirements

• Experience:

  • Minimum 2 years of operating room experience OR
  • Minimum 1 year as a Scrub Tech (higher value applies → 2 years operating room experience required)
• Certifications:

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) required
• Licensing:

  • Must provide proof of license at time of submission
• Travel Experience:

  • Prior travel experience preferred; first-time travelers not accepted
• Other:

  • Locals accepted
  • No on-call required
  • No weekend work required
  • Must comply with RTO (Request Time Off) restrictions; cannot take every holiday off
  • Any call-outs require more than 24 hours’ notice

Physical Demands & Environment

• Frequent standing, walking, bending, squatting, reaching, and stretching.
• Physical agility and quick reaction time required.
• Adequate hearing, visual acuity, and color vision necessary.
• Fine motor skills and good eye-hand coordination required.
• Ability to use proper body mechanics to assist patients as needed.
• May be required to lift up to 75 pounds.
• Must use standard precautions due to exposure risk to blood and bodily fluids.
• Effective communication skills required (reading, writing, speaking).
• Periodic use of computer, phone, and office equipment may be necessary.

• Surgical Center setting
• Scrubs and closed-toe shoes provided
• No charting required for scrub techs

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

• Government-issued photo ID (Driver’s License/State ID)
• Emergency Contact Form prior to start
• Background checks including 7-year search and sex offender registry
• Annual EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks
• Certifications: BLS required; ACLS and PALS preferred
• State license verification and tech certification as applicable
• Competency exams as required by profession
• Physical exam within 1 year of start
• Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
• Proof of immunity or vaccination for Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella
• 9-panel drug screen within 1 year
• Seasonal flu vaccination or declination during flu season (Oct 1 - Mar 31)
• Professional references (2 for travel/allied/per diem acute care; 1 for per diem non-acute care)

This position is ideal for experienced surgical scrub techs with at least 2 years of OR experience who prefer travel assignments and can commit to an 11-week contract in Lexington, SC.
