Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Location: San Francisco, California
Contract Length: 10 weeks


Job Description

  • 10-hour shifts
  • Ability to float to other UCSF facilities
  • Work in a high-volume inpatient/hospital environment
  • Demonstrate resourcefulness, strong communication, diplomacy, organizational, and analytic skills
  • Self-directed, assertive, and creative in problem solving, systems planning, and patient care management

Requirements

  • Licenses & Certifications:

    • California RN License (CA RN License)
    • AHA Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (AHA required, no placeholders)
    • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) - AHA required for many units (check unit specifics)
    • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) - AHA required for pediatric and certain other units
    • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) - AHA/AAP required for L&D, ICN, pediatric critical care float pool, and transport
    • Chemotherapy certification required for Oncology and Pediatric Oncology units
    • Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) may be required for ER/ED
    • Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM) required for Labor & Delivery
    • Management of Assaultive Behavior (MAB) may be required for ER/ED
    • NIH Stroke Certification required for all ED RNs
    • Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) required for all Psychiatric positions
    • Pass/Fail Testing (EKG/Medication) required on first day, including Telemetry Test for many units
    • Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam required within a year of start (passing score 80%+)
    • Unit-specific Competency Exams required within 12 months of start (passing score 80%+)
    • Core Parts I, II, and III competency exams required annually (passing score 80%+)
  • Experience:

    • Minimum 2 years of inpatient/hospital experience (highest required years of experience)
  • Other:

    • Current and valid Driver’s License or government photo ID matching professional license
    • Background checks including 7-year criminal check, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG, Sex Offender Search, Education Verification
    • Physical exam within 1 year of start including physician statement of fitness to work
    • Fit mask test within 1 year of start (specific mask types required, annual update)
    • Drug testing (standard 9 panel excluding THC) within 30 days of start, re-run every 2 years
    • Immunizations and titers required:
      • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years, no declinations accepted except medical exemptions)
      • Negative TB tests (2 required: one within 1 year, one within 3 months of start) or chest X-ray if positive TB history
      • Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella (IGG titers or 2 vaccines required)
      • Hepatitis B (titer, series, or declination with signed form)
      • Varicella (IGG titer or 2 vaccines required; history of disease not accepted)
      • Flu seasonal vaccination or facility-specific declination required during flu season
      • COVID-19 vaccination requirements including booster 2 or approved exemptions
  • References & History:

    • Two supervisory references required (preferably from most recent employment)
    • Current and updated resume including last 7 years of work history; gaps of 30+ days must be explained
    • Unit-specific skills checklist updated annually
    • Work history verification for 7 years required (non-clinical may be exempt)

  • Master's Degree

Additional Notes

  • Candidates must complete facility-specific documents including confidentiality agreements, parking/uniform info, COVID-19 preparedness, and learning modules prior to or shortly after start
  • Photo for badge must be submitted by Monday prior to start week
  • Pass/fail exams and competency tests must be completed with passing scores to continue employment
  • Candidates may be required to complete annual TB questionnaires and other health screenings as per facility policy
  • Prior travel experience is not explicitly required for this position
