Registered Nurse - Burn Intensive Care Unit (BICU)
Location: San Francisco, California
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 9 weeks
Job Details
- Shift: Day shifts, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 AM - 7:30 PM)
- Ability to float to other facilities within the health system
- Unit: Burn Intensive Care Unit (BICU)
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in California
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
- Minimum 1 year of ICU (Intensive Care Unit) experience within the last year
- Experience in Burn ICU
- Certifications:
- Basic Life Support (BLS) issued by the American Heart Association
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) issued by the American Heart Association
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in Burn Unit nursing
- 1 year Pediatrics experience
- Certified Critical Care Nurse (CCRN)
- Advanced Burn Life Support (ABLS)
- Certified Burn RN (CBRN)
Required Documentation & Compliance
- Current and valid Driver’s License or government photo ID matching professional license
- Background checks including 7-year criminal history, nationwide and international searches, and education verification
- Primary source verification of RN license within 30 days of start
- Pass/Fail Telemetry and Medication competency exams on orientation day
- Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam with a passing score of 80% or higher within 1 year of start
- Unit-specific competency exams with a passing score of 80% or higher within 12 months of start
- Core training modules (Parts I, II, III) with passing scores of 80% or higher, completed within 1 year prior to start and updated annually
- Physical exam within 1 year of start including physician statement of fitness to work
- Fit mask test within 1 year of start (specific mask types required)
- Immunizations and titers:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years, no declinations accepted except medical exemptions)
- Two negative TB tests (PPD, QuantiFERON, or T-Spot) with specific timing requirements
- Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella: IGG titer or 2 vaccines required
- Hepatitis B: titer, series, or declination (declination must be signed within 1 year)
- Varicella: IGG titer or 2 vaccines required (history of disease not accepted)
- Drug testing: Standard 9-panel (excluding THC) within 30 days of start, re-run every 2 years
- Flu seasonal vaccination or facility-specific declination required during flu season (Nov-Apr)
- COVID-19 vaccination is strongly recommended but not required as of current policy
Additional Requirements
- Two supervisory references required from most recent or second most recent employment (charge nurses acceptable)
- Current and updated resume including last 7 years of work history; gaps of 30 days or more must be explained
- Verification of 7 years of work history matching resume (attestations considered case-by-case, not accepted for most recent employment)
- Unit-specific skills checklist updated annually
- Facility-specific photo for badge must be submitted by Monday prior to start (color photo, neutral background)
- Completion of facility-specific learning modules prior to or on orientation day
- Review and initial facility policies including COVID-19 preparedness, confidentiality, and cyber security awareness
- Management of Assaultive Behavior (MAB) may be required depending on unit assignment
- Pass/Fail Telemetry exam required for nurses working in critical care and telemetry units
Notes
- Facility scrubs provided for certain units (Cardiac Cath Lab, Burn Unit, OR, Surgical Services); otherwise, scrub color guidelines apply
- Floating to other facilities within the health system is expected
- Fit testing onsite available as last resort with appointment scheduling required
- Religious and medical exemptions for COVID-19 vaccination require advance approval and documentation
