Registered Nurse – Rehab (Travel/Contract)

Location: Charleston, West Virginia
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Details

  • Shift: Night shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM – 7:00 AM)
  • Hours per Week: 36 hours (option for 48 hours available, discuss during interview)
  • Schedule: Weekdays, every other weekend required, no call requirement
  • Unit: 24-bed Med Rehab unit specializing in cerebrovascular disease, traumatic brain injury, amputees, spinal cord injuries, deconditioning, and neurological diseases
  • Patient Care: Multidisciplinary care team including physiatrist, NP, nurse, therapists, and social worker; therapy provided 3 hours/day Monday-Friday
  • Patient Diagnoses: Spinal cord injury (SCI), traumatic brain injury (TBI), stroke, amputation, neuromuscular diseases, severe deconditioning related to cardiac or respiratory events
  • Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: Nights 1:5-6; Days 1:4-5
  • Floating: RN may be floated within scope to meet facility needs
  • Block Schedule Requests: Open to accommodation, discuss during interview
  • Travel Radius: 100-mile radius rule (75-99 miles requires facility approval)

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in West Virginia
  • Minimum 1 year of rehabilitation nursing experience within the last year
  • BLS certification (AHA only, must be current before start)
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Valid Driver’s License

Orientation & Training

  • Orientation held every other week on Thursday (2-day orientation: Thursday and Friday)
  • Cerner electronic charting system used
  • Required to complete in-service training modules (approx. 4 hours) prior to start, including pass/fail testing for EKG, medication calculation, and blood administration
  • Stroke education CEUs required annually (minimum 4 hours) for nursing staff on this unit
  • Review of facility-specific policies and dress code required before start

Health & Safety Requirements

  • Immunizations & Testing:
    • Flu vaccine required during flu season (Oct 1 – Mar 31) unless medically or religiously exempt with approved documentation
    • COVID-19 vaccination not required
    • Tdap vaccination required (medical/religious exemptions accepted with approval)
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 3 months of start
    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B immunity or vaccination series required
  • Drug Screen: Must be completed within 30 days of start, including a full panel (amphetamines, barbiturates, cocaine, opiates, PCP, benzodiazepines, methadone, propoxyphene)
  • Physical Exam: Completed within 1 year of start, must confirm good health and ability to perform job duties
  • Fit Mask Testing: Annual N95 fit testing required; PAPR accommodations available if needed

Documentation & Submission Requirements

  • Valid Driver’s License required
  • Social Security Card required (legible)
  • Background check within 30 days of start (7-year criminal history, SSN trace, sex offender search, national and international checks if applicable)
  • Primary source license verification (NURSYS) within 30 days of start
  • Minimum 2 manager/charge nurse references within past 2 years
  • Specialty skills checklist and competency exams required annually
  • Signed facility-specific documents including dress code, time and attendance, medical release, vaccination exemption forms if applicable
  • No return to this facility as a traveler within 2 years of last permanent employment

  • Scrub color: Royal Blue/White or combination
  • Parking: Free parking garage for travelers
  • No restrictions on return to other facilities
  • Candidates must notify manager of latex allergy if applicable
