Cath Lab Tech - Travel/Contract
Location: Redlands, California
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Overview
- Work in a community hospital Cath Lab with 2 Cath Lab/Special Procedure rooms, including a hybrid OR/Cath Lab.
- Team covers Cardiac (pacers, ICD, diagnostic right and left heart catheterizations, PFO), Vascular diagnostics and interventions, Interventional Radiology (IR), and Neuro diagnostics/interventions.
- Facility is a certified Stroke Center.
- Elective PCI Program expected to start in ~4 months, progressing to STEMI program in >12 months.
- Orientation approximately 20 hours (adjustable based on need).
- Scrubs provided.
- Documentation systems: Omnicell med system, Meditech Expanse.
- Communication method: SBAR.
- On-call schedule: Every third weekend plus 1-3 times per week on call.
Schedule
- Day shift, 4 days per week, 10-hour shifts.
- Shift options: 6:30 AM – 5:00 PM or 8:00 AM – 6:30 PM.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years of Cath Lab Radiology Technologist experience, including experience within the last year.
- Certifications required:
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- ARRT-R (Radiologic Technologist)
- California CRT (Certified Radiologic Technologist)
- California Fluoroscopy Certification
- Skills/Experience required:
- Scrub procedures and maintaining sterile field
- Equipment setup and maintenance
- Cath Lab Technologist experience
Preferred Skills/Experience
- Diagnostic and interventional Cardiac Cath Lab procedures including:
- Hybrid OR experience
- ASD closures, cardiac implant closure devices, stent placement
- Hemodynamic monitoring, IABP placement/removal, Impella insertion
- Interpretation of dysrhythmias
- Left and right heart catheterizations
- Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT)
- Percutaneous Coronary Interventions (PCI), PTCA
- Permanent and temporary pacemaker insertion
- Pulmonary artery line insertion
- Angioplasty, aortography, chemoembolization, embolization
- Gastrostomy tube placement
- Inferior vena cava (IVC) filter placement/removal
- Paracentesis, thoracentesis, catheter/drain exchange
- Internal/external biliary drainage
- Renal angiography, uterine arterial embolization, carotid angiography and stenting
- Central venous access/port placement and maintenance
- Dialysis graft creation/revision and interventions
- Endovascular interventions including EVAR, TIPS, thrombolysis/thrombectomy
- Use of fluoroscopy and ultrasound
- Recognition of life-threatening arrhythmias
- Vascular closure systems (Perclose, StarClose)
- Lead tech experience
- Participation in rapid response/code teams
- Preceptor/trainer experience
Required Documentation & Compliance
- Unexpired government-issued photo ID or passport.
- Background checks including SS trace, county searches (7 years), nationwide, sex offender, and international if applicable.
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start.
- National certification verification within 30 days of contract start and upon expiration.
- Signed acknowledgments for safety manual, abuse reporting, confidentiality, code of conduct, employee handbook, drug-free workplace policy, sexual harassment pamphlet, and other facility-specific policies.
- Physical exam within last 12 months, updated annually.
- Fit mask testing with approved masks prior to start; no facial hair allowed that interferes with mask seal.
- Immunizations and titers required within 90 days of start (or 1 year for per diem):
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (updated every 10 years)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray (2-step PPD, Q Gold, or T-Spot)
- Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella titers or vaccinations
- Seasonal flu vaccine or declination by October 31 (mask required if declining)
- COVID vaccines plus 1 booster or approved exemption
- 10-panel drug screen including THC within 30 days of start (1 year for per diem).
- Color blind exam (Ishihara test) required for clinical positions.
- References: 2 professional references within 3 years required for some agencies.
- Employment application and work history verification required.
- Annual skills checklist and competency exams as applicable.
Additional Notes
- Facility is progressing toward expanding Cath Lab services including adding a third lab within a year.
- The team currently works all modalities together but may split when the third lab opens.
- On-call responsibilities include every third weekend and additional call 1-3 times weekly.
- Scrubs are provided by the facility.
This position is ideal for experienced Cath Lab Technologists with strong interventional cardiology skills and flexibility for on-call duties in a community hospital setting. First-time travelers with extensive experience may be considered.
