Job Opportunity: Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) – Travel/Contract
Location: Rome, New York
Setting: In-prison medical clinic
Contract Length: 26 weeks (approximately 6 months)
Shift: Night shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM – 6:53 AM)
Hours per Week: 36 hours
Job Description
- Provide clinical care including taking vital signs, performing physical assessments, dressing wounds, and conducting health screenings.
- Administer daily medications, including controlled substances, and manage inmate compliance.
- Respond to medical emergencies within the facility.
- Accurately document inmate health data, updates, and treatments.
- Follow strict security protocols while delivering care in a correctional environment.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) or Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) license in New York.
- Minimum of 1 year of LPN/LVN experience, with experience within the last year.
- Current certification in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
- Current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
- Current certification in Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) issued by the American Heart Association.
- Experience working in a correctional setting.
Important Requirements & Conditions
- In-Person Interview: Must attend an in-person interview at 3 PM Monday through Friday; phone or online interviews are not permitted.
- Criminal History Clearance: Must clear the state-run Criminal History Form before starting; this process can take up to 4 weeks.
- Fingerprinting: Required and completed onsite on the first day of orientation. New fingerprints required if there is a gap of 6 months or more between assignments.
- Background Checks: Includes a 5-year criminal background check, sex offender registry search, and verification of the last 7 years of locations lived/worked/schooled.
- Health Documentation:
- Physical exam within 1 year of start.
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months prior to start; annual TB renewal required and may be completed onsite.
- Vaccination documentation or titers for Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, and Varicella.
- Drug screening (9-panel) within 1 year of start.
- Flu vaccine or declination documentation (not required at this facility but needed to meet standard requirements).
- COVID-19 booster preferred but not required.
- References: Two professional references required.
- Work History Verification: Verification of 5 years of work history required; work attestations accepted.
- Medicaid Enrollment: Candidates must submit proof of Medicaid enrollment as a non-billing provider (specific to New York State requirements).
Work Environment & Additional Information
- Report time on the first day is 8 AM.
- Dress code: Comfortable shoes, scrubs color not specified but avoid dark green or camouflage; no cell phones or purses allowed.
- Bring a driver’s license and certifications on the first day.
