Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse – Correctional Facility

Shift and Hours

• Evening Shift: 2:00 PM – 10:30 PM (includes 30-minute meal break)
• 40 hours per week (5 days x 8 hours)

Job Description

• Provide nursing care to male adjudicated juvenile delinquents under custody until age 21.
• Supervision staff present during nursing care.
• Maintain inventory standards for medicines, controlled drugs, and narcotics.
• Review and evaluate health conditions and nursing intervention plans.
• Participate in staff training.
• Prepare clinical and administrative reports.
• Maintain infection control standards.
• Function as a member of a treatment team.
• Additional duties discussed during interview.

Required Qualifications

• Licensed and currently registered as a Registered Nurse in New York State.
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification (American Heart Association or American Red Cross).
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification including CPR and AED (American Heart Association or American Red Cross).
• Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification (American Heart Association or American Red Cross).
• Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam required for RNs.
• Competency Exam required for all candidates.

Background and Compliance Requirements

• Criminal background checks including:

  • 5-year criminal background check within 6 months of start.
  • Social Security trace.
  • County, state, and national criminal and sex offender searches.
• Fingerprinting required (completed onsite except for certain exceptions).
• New York State Staff Exclusion List (SEL) and Statewide Central Registry (SCR) forms must be completed immediately.
• Physical exam required within 1 year of start.
• Negative TB test or chest X-ray (Qgold, Tspot, or 2-step PPD) within 12 months prior to start.
• Drug testing (9 panel) within 1 year of start.
• Vaccination documentation or titers required for:

  • Rubeola (Measles)
  • Mumps
  • Rubella
  • Hepatitis B (or declination)
  • Varicella
• Flu seasonal vaccination or declination for 2025-26.
• COVID-19 booster preferred but not required.
• Confidentiality Non-Disclosure Agreement required.
• Two professional references required.
