Registered Nurse – CVOR (Pediatric Cardiovascular Operating Room)
Location: Orange, California

Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Details
- Pediatric Cardiovascular Operating Room (CVOR)
- Shift: Day shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (06:30 – 19:00)
- Call requirement: 1-2 weekends per month
- Float requirement: Yes, float to main OR
- Patient population includes congenital heart and other cardiac surgeries, plus general OR patients
- CVOR experience required; pediatric CVOR experience preferred for pediatric cardiac cases
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in California
- Minimum 2 years of CVOR experience, with CVOR experience within the last year
- Completion of at least one travel nursing assignment
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association
Orientation & Onboarding
- Pre-start modules (~7 hours) must be completed by Wednesday 8am before start date
- Orientation includes virtual and in-person components; must be in the area by start date
- Badge pickup on unit during first shift; temperature checks and prescreening may be required
- Professional photo required for badge (clear, professional, solid background)
- Must complete facility-specific acknowledgments and sign documents including:
- Job description
- Non-disclosure agreement
- Safety manual acknowledgment
- Dress code acknowledgment (no artificial fingernails allowed; natural nails ≤ ¼ inch)
- AIDET acknowledgment
- Mission, Vision, and Values acknowledgment
- Standards of Conduct packet
- Fingernail Hygiene Policy
- Must complete facility orientation checklist and other required forms prior to start
Health & Safety Requirements
- Negative 9-panel drug screen within 60 days of start (no instant tests; marijuana testing not accepted)
- Immunizations and titers required:
- Tdap vaccine (TD or Dtap not acceptable)
- Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella: positive titer or 2 vaccines; boosters if low/negative titers
- Hepatitis B: positive titer, declination, or proof of 3-shot series
- TB testing: IGRA or 2-step PPD within 60 days of start; annual TB questionnaire required
- Mask fit testing required prior to start (cannot be done onsite); required for certain units including OR and PICU
- Physical exam within 1 year (Aya standard)
- Eye exam (in-person visual acuity) required prior to start
- Color blind exam (Ishihara test) required if applicable
- Seasonal flu vaccine or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Sept–March)
- COVID vaccines preferred but not required
Background & Documentation
- Criminal background check within 60 days of start (7-year search including SSN trace, aliases, education verification)
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 60 days of start
- Verification of highest applicable degree required (transcript or diploma acceptable as placeholder)
- Employment application and work history verification (minimum 2 previous employers, up to 7 years experience) required prior to start
- Two supervisor references required (charge RN or floor supervisor acceptable)
- Unit-specific skills checklist signed and dated by employee
Additional Notes
- Call shifts may require 72 hours plus 8 days per month (12-24 hours/day) depending on schedule
- Radiation badge required if working in Cath Lab, OR, Procedure Center, or Urology Clinic (badge supplied by client for new hires)
- Must complete medication/pharmacology competency exam specific to pediatrics with a minimum score of 80%
- Must complete facility-specific modules and competency exams prior to working on the floor
This position is not open to first-time travel nurses and requires prior CVOR experience. The role involves complex pediatric cardiac surgical cases and general OR patient care in a high-acuity environment.
