NICU Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Job - San Diego, California

Job Details

• Position: NICU Registered Nurse
• Location: San Diego, California
• Employment Type: Travel/Contract
• Contract Length: 13 weeks
• Shift: 3x12 hour shifts, variable or straight nights (7:00 AM–7:00 PM or 7:00 PM–7:00 AM)
• Hours per Week: 36 hours
• Weekend Requirement: Must be available to work weekends with full scheduling flexibility
• Floating: Required to float within scope to meet facility needs, including PICU, CVICU, and NICU satellite campuses
• Transportation: Must have own transportation (mileage reimbursed for travel to satellite campuses)
• Guaranteed Hours: Guaranteed after call-off policy is met
• Locals: Not accepted
• Return to Office (RTO) Restrictions: Maximum 6 days

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in California
• Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
• Minimum 2 years of recent NICU (Neonatal Intensive Care) experience, including experience within the last year
• Experience working with neonate patients
• BLS issued by American Heart Association
• NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) certification
• Cardiac experience

Candidate Requirements & Preferences

• First-time travelers accepted if they have Level 4 NICU experience
• Must be willing to float between units and satellite campuses
• Must be flexible to work weekends as scheduled
• Must have valid photo ID (front and back) available on first day
• Must provide 2 supervisory references verified within 1 year from clinical leadership (director, supervisor, or manager)
• Must have completed a full 7-year employment history with explanations for gaps over 6 months

Required Pre-Employment Documentation & Compliance

• Background Checks:

  • Criminal background checks for all counties lived/worked in last 7 years
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start
  • International background check if lived/worked abroad
• Education Verification:

  • Transcripts/diploma required; 3rd party verification required for all candidates
• Health Requirements:

  • Physical exam within 1 year, signed by MD, DO, NP, PA, or APRN, confirming good health without restrictions
  • Negative TB test (Qgold/Tspot within 6 months or two negative PPDs)
  • Immunizations or positive titers for Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B (series or titer)
  • Tdap vaccine within 10 years (declinations not accepted)
  • Seasonal flu vaccine required during flu season (declinations not accepted)
  • Negative non-THC 9-panel drug test within 30 days of start
• Fit Mask Test: Required within 1 year for specified N95 masks
• Photo for Badge: Recent (within 3 months), plain background, JPEG format, neck-up photo required by Wednesday prior to start
• Auto Insurance: Proof required if applicable for home health (not applicable here)

Required Competency & Testing

• Medication Calculation Exam: 100% pass required prior to start (one retake allowed)
• Pediatric Pharmacology Competency Exam: 100% pass required in pharmacology section; overall 80% minimum
• Competency Exam: Minimum 80% score required, must be updated annually
• Pass/Fail Medication Test: 100% required, two attempts allowed
• Core Competency Parts I, II, and III: Required and must be updated annually
• Acknowledgement of Pass/Fail Testing required for all RNs (except Case Managers)

Additional Notes

• Candidates must be comfortable with floating to sister facilities and satellite NICU campuses
• Mileage reimbursement provided for travel from home base NICU to satellite locations
• Block scheduling is not accommodated
• On-call is not required for this position

This position is ideal for experienced NICU RNs with strong Level 4 or surgical Level 3 NICU experience seeking a travel contract in a highly regarded pediatric hospital setting.
