Job Opportunity: Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: Worcester, Massachusetts
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Position in a maternity float pool requiring flexibility to work both Labor & Delivery (L&D) and Postpartum (PP) units (true LDRP role).
- Must be willing and able to float between L&D and PP.
- Shift: Night shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (18:45 to 7:15), totaling 36 hours per week.
- Schedule includes every other weekend and holiday coverage.
- Start dates are fixed: must be able to start on either June 10 or June 24; no other start dates considered.
- Requires passing two pass/fail exams at orientation: a medication exam and a telemetry exam (one attempt allowed each). Failure to pass results in immediate contract cancellation. Study materials will be provided.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Massachusetts.
- Minimum 2 years of Labor and Delivery experience, including experience within the last year.
- Postpartum experience.
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
- Certifications:
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- BLS (Basic Life Support) issued by the American Heart Association
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
- AWHONN (Association of Women's Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses) certification
- Experience with Epic electronic health record system.
- Acknowledgement of pass/fail testing requirements.
- Successful completion of pass/fail competency exams including medication and EKG/telemetry testing.
Compliance and Documentation Requirements
- Valid Driver’s License or State ID.
- Massachusetts Statewide iCORI (criminal background) clearance required within 30 days prior to start.
- 7-year criminal background check covering all counties lived/worked in, including SSN trace, national criminal search, and OIG/SAM checks.
- Education verification of highest completed degree (transcript acceptable if verification unavailable; diplomas not accepted).
- NURSYS license verification within 30 days prior to start.
- Physical exam within 12 months of start, including physician statement of fitness to work without restrictions.
- Drug test within 30 days of start covering a comprehensive panel of substances.
- Immunizations or valid declinations required for:
- COVID-19 (most recent vaccine or facility-specific declination)
- Flu vaccine or declination (required during flu season)
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (declinations not accepted for maternity)
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) with titers, vaccines, or declination (declinations not accepted for maternity)
- Varicella (chickenpox) immunity or declination (declinations not accepted for maternity)
- Hepatitis B vaccination series, titer, or declination (declinations accepted with conditions)
- TB testing: Two PPDs (one within 90 days, one within a year) or QuantiFERON/T-Spot within 90 days; positive TB requires chest X-ray and facility-specific questionnaire.
- Completion of required competency exams including medication/pharmacology and dysrhythmia/EKG competency (pass/fail with one attempt).
- References: Two professional references within three years of start date.
- Employment application documenting 7 years of employment history with explanations for gaps over 30 days.
- Skills checklist required prior to start and updated annually as applicable.
Additional Information
- Up to 5 days or less of Return to Origin (RTO) allowed.
- Local candidates are eligible for the same terms as travelers.
- Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) certification may be required on site depending on assignment.
- Candidates must comply with all facility-specific health and safety policies, including COVID-19 vaccination or declination requirements.
This position is ideal for experienced Labor and Delivery RNs comfortable with maternity float pool assignments, telemetry monitoring, and passing strict orientation competency exams.
