- Average patient ratio: 1:6 (days, nights, weekends)
- Weekend requirement: Every other weekend
Job Description
- Emergency Room Registered Nurse position
- Virtual orientation on Friday; onsite reporting starts Monday
- Assigned primarily to one campus with possible rotation to other campuses and ED observation
- No assignment to trauma/rescue rooms, triage, or locked behavioral health units
- Floating within scope of practice to meet facility needs
- Open to block scheduling accommodations
- Guaranteed hours
- No on-call requirement
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse license in Connecticut
- Minimum 1.5 years of Emergency Department (ED) experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Certifications required:
- Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC)
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
Orientation & Scheduling Policies
- Weekend call-out makeup policy applies with specific rescheduling rules to avoid overtime unless approved
- Return-to-Orientation (RTO) restrictions: RTO greater than 7 days requires approval

- Foreign equivalency education evaluation for internationally educated candidates
- Education verification of highest level completed
- Verification of licensure through primary source within 30 days of start
- Employment application with 7-year work history and no gaps over 90 days
- Work history verification for last 7 years (attestations not accepted)
- Skills checklist within 12 months of start
- Attestation of prior radiation exposure if applicable to certain tech roles (not RN-specific)
Required Health & Safety Documents
- Physical exam within 12 months of start
- Fit mask test within 12 months, updated annually (clean shaven required)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray documentation
- Annual TB questionnaire
- Immunizations or titers for Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B (or approved declinations/exemptions)
- 10-panel drug screen within 12 months of start
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption (required during flu season)
- COVID vaccination series preferred but not required
Required Training & Certifications (Facility Specific)
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exam (minimum 85% score)
- Color blind testing (minimum 80% score; required for all candidates starting 8/2/2024 or later)
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam (required for ER, Telemetry, ICU, Progressive Care, Stepdown, PACU, Cath Lab, Labor and Delivery units)
- Language Services Training
- CAUTI Education Training (except PICU, NICU, Psychiatry/Behavioral Health)
- Suicide Risk and Environmental Assessment Training
- Stroke Education (except Pediatric specialties and NICU)
- CLABSI Prevention for Adult and Pediatric Training
- Preventing Pressure Injury Training
- Patient Transportation with Oxygen Education
- Pyxis ES MedStation Modules
- Baxter Pump Interoperability Training
- Patient Bedside Rounding (except OR, Behavioral Health, Ambulatory, ER/ED)
- Ventricular Assist Device Awareness (except certain campuses)
- AME Blood Administration Module (except Case Managers and Behavioral Health/Psych/Home Health; annual update required)
- New Employee Orientation Module (required by end of first day)
- 21st Century Cures Act Module (required for RNs except Home Health)
- ED Handbook (required for ER RNs)
- eCart Training Module (not required for Pediatric, Periop/OR, Outpatient, Case Managers, Home Health)
- Chaperone Policy Training (required if gap of 6+ months between assignments or module updated)
- Fire Safety Module (effective 5/4/2026 and forward)

- EPIC testing is encouraged for ER RNs with prior EPIC experience; onsite EPIC training provided if testing is not completed or passed
