Pathologist Assistant - Travel/Contract

Location: Saint Joseph, Missouri
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Day shift, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM (5 days/week, 8 hours/day)

Job Description

• Perform complete dissection, gross description, and selection/submission of tissue for microscopic examination and special studies (e.g., flow cytometry, immunohistochemical staining).
• Work under the direction of pathologists, maintaining high ethical standards and integrity.
• Photograph gross and microscopic specimens.
• Assist in preparing educational conferences and provide training to pathology personnel, including residents and medical students.
• Serve as liaison to other departments and laboratories to ensure quality healthcare.
• Maintain pathology protocols, procedures, reports, and data.

Required Qualifications

• Associate's Degree in Biological, Chemical, or a related Laboratory Science OR Bachelor of Science degree.
• Minimum 1 year of experience as a Pathology Assistant, with experience within the last year.
• Certification as a Pathologists’ Assistant (PA) from ASCP.

Required Documents & Compliance

• Valid Driver’s License or State ID.
• Background checks including:

  • National Criminal Check
  • State and County Searches (10 years, all addresses and aliases)
  • SSN Trace with aliases
  • National Sex Offender Registry
  • FACIS Level 3
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM
  • HHS/OIG
• Education verification with official transcript or diploma including graduation date.
• Missouri EDL Search within 30 days of start.
• Physical exam within last 12 months (not required annually).
• Drug screen within 30 days of start (not required annually), covering a comprehensive panel of substances.
• Immunizations and/or documentation for:

  • Rubeola (Measles) – 2 MMR vaccines, positive titer, or declination.
  • Mumps – 2 MMR vaccines, positive titer, or declination.
  • Rubella – 2 MMR vaccines, positive titer, or declination.
  • Hepatitis B – vaccination series, titer, or declination.
  • Varicella – 2 vaccines, positive titer, or declination.
  • Seasonal Flu Vaccine (2025-26) – required or approved medical/religious exemption (mask required if exempt).
• Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year; if positive TB, additional documentation and consult required.
• Fit testing completed onsite at orientation.
• Professional references: 2 within last 3 years.
• Employment application, skills checklist, and work history verification required.

Certifications & Competencies

• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (AHA or ARC).
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification if applicable (AHA only).
• Primary source verification of PA certification within 30 days of start.
• Annual acknowledgment of orientation safety manual and pass/fail testing as applicable.

Additional Notes

• Candidate must review and sign confidentiality agreement and code of conduct.
• Drug screen and background checks must be current and comprehensive.
• Flu vaccine compliance is strictly enforced during flu season.
• Onsite fit testing and TB screening are mandatory prior to starting work.

This position offers a travel/contract opportunity for a qualified Pathologist Assistant with at least one year of experience and appropriate certification, working full-time day shifts in Missouri.
