Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position

Location: Garfield Heights, Ohio
Specialty: Med/Surg Telemetry


Job Details

  • Shift: Night shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7pm-7am)
  • Contract Length: 13 weeks
  • Experience Required:
    • Minimum 18 months recent permanent Med/Surg Telemetry experience prior to travel assignment
  • Licensing:
    • Must have permanent Ohio nursing license or compact state license in hand
  • Certifications Required:
    • AHA BLS & ACLS (must be current)
    • Willingness to obtain NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification prior to start
  • References:
    • One recent reference from a manager, ANM, supervisor, or director in the specialty applying for is required (Charge RN references accepted)
  • Testing:
    • ECG rhythm recognition test and SafeMedicate medication competency test during orientation; passing scores required

Required Documentation & Compliance

  • Government-Issued Photo ID: Must carry while on assignment
  • Background Checks:
    • Comprehensive background check including 7-year FCRA compliant search, education verification, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG checks, and fingerprinting (FBI and BCI)
    • Fingerprinting must be completed within 48 hours of signed contract and updated annually
    • Fingerprints must be done under nursing code 4723.09
  • Education Verification: Required for all candidates
  • Physical Exam: Within 1 year of start, including Snellen eye exam (for candidates signing after 4/11/25)
  • Fit Mask: N95 fit test within 12 months, updated annually
  • Immunizations & Health Requirements:
    • Tdap vaccine every 10 years (no declinations accepted)
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months, updated annually
    • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccinations or positive titers with boosters if needed
    • Hepatitis B vaccination or titer or declination documentation
    • Varicella vaccination or positive titer with booster if needed
    • Seasonal flu vaccine or approved medical/religious exemption (declinations not accepted)
  • Drug Testing: Standard 10-panel drug screen within 12 months, updated annually (instant drug screens not accepted)
  • Eye Exam: Required within 1 year of start for new candidates signing after 4/11/25
  • References: Two references required from employment within one year of start, from a manager, ANM, supervisor, charge nurse, or director (co-worker references not accepted)
  • Employment History: Must include 3 years prior work history with at least 2 years clinical practice in acute care in a similar area

Certifications & Competencies

  • Mandatory Certifications:
    • ACLS (AHA Instructor or Provider, RQI acceptable)
    • BLS (AHA Instructor or Provider, RQI acceptable)
  • Preferred/Additional Certifications:
    • PALS (preferred but not required)
    • NRP (required for L&D, OB/GYN, NICU)
    • TNCC (preferred for ER)
    • NIH Stroke Certification (AHA, Apex, AACME, or Bluecloud only)
  • Competency Exams:
    • Unit-specific competency exam required within 12 months of start and updated annually
    • Medication test/pharmacology competency exam as applicable
  • Orientation Requirements:
    • Completion of facility-specific online training modules prior to start (must be done on a computer using Google Chrome)
    • Pass/fail ECG and medication testing during orientation (SafeMedicate)
    • Acknowledgement of pass/fail testing required for all nursing positions except OR

Additional Notes

  • Candidates must complete all onboarding modules prior to clearance to start
  • Fingerprinting results must be received prior to contract extension; candidates may start with results pending if fingerprinting is completed before start
  • Physical exam and immunization requirements accommodate latex allergies with notification
  • Candidates with gaps in employment over 6 months may need to re-complete modules and provide updated documentation
  • Flu vaccine exemptions require agency and facility approval; declinations are not accepted
  • Candidates must carry government-issued photo ID at all times during assignment
