Position Overview
Seeking an experienced Oncology Nurse to provide comprehensive care to adult and geriatric patients with cancers such as endometrial, bladder, renal, ovarian, and cervical. The unit specializes in chemotherapy, clinical trials, brachytherapy, and continuous bladder irrigation (CBI), with strong emphasis on infection prevention and patient fall management.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver direct patient care to adult and geriatric oncology patients.
- Administer chemotherapy and monitor for adverse reactions.
- Participate in clinical trials, including data collection and documentation.
- Perform specialized procedures like brachytherapy and neobladder care.
- Implement infection prevention protocols and maintain patient safety.
- Monitor telemetry, interpret dysrhythmias, and respond to patient condition changes.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary and rapid response teams.
- Manage feeding tubes, IV therapy, blood product administration, and central lines.
- Use EPIC electronic charting system for documentation.
Qualifications
- Registered Nurse (RN) with at least 2 years of Med Surg/Telemetry nursing experience.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Proficient in medical-surgical and telemetry nursing, including dysrhythmia interpretation.
- Experience with oncology-specific procedures such as chemotherapy and brachytherapy.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- Commitment to ongoing professional development.
- Oncology Nursing Society (ONS) Chemotherapy certification preferred.
Work Schedule
- 12-hour night shifts primarily; day/night shifts also available.
- Staffing ratios typically 1:4, may adjust to 1:5 based on unit needs.
- Variable weekends based on unit requirements.
- Self-scheduling accommodated to balance preferences and unit needs.
- Orientation: Week 1 is Monday-Friday day shift; Week 2 includes 36 hours of on-unit orientation with a preceptor.
Required Certifications & Competencies
- BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA provider or instructor accepted.
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) may be required depending on unit.
- Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam within 1 year of start and annually thereafter.
- Medication/Pharmacology Competency Exam prior to start.
- Unit-specific competency exams as required.
- State nursing license verification within 30 days of start.
- Oncology Nursing Society (ONS) Chemotherapy certification preferred.
Background & Compliance Requirements
- 7-year criminal background check within 90 days of start, including FBI and BCI fingerprinting.
- Monthly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG monitoring.
- Education accreditation verification from an accredited nursing program (CCNE, ACEN, NLN CNEA, or CASN).
- Pending background check attestation allowed if fingerprint results are pending.
- Drug screening: Negative 10-panel drug test within 3 months of start (no pending tests allowed).
- Physical exam within 1 year confirming good health and free of contagious disease.
- Immunizations and health documentation required:
- Tdap (adult dose after age 11/12)
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 1 year
- TB questionnaire
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) - 2 vaccines or positive titer
- Varicella - 2 vaccines or positive titer (medical exemptions reviewed)
- Hepatitis B titer or 3-vaccine series (declination acceptable)
- Seasonal flu vaccine or declination during flu season (mask required if declined)
- COVID-19 vaccination not required but recommended.
Facility-Specific Policies
- Dress code and hand hygiene policy must be reviewed and signed.
- Confidential Fraud, Waste, and Abuse reporting training and acknowledgment required annually.
- Ethics and compliance policies must be reviewed and acknowledged annually for new contracts.
- Proof of fingerprint completion required for all candidates.
- Background acknowledgment form required for subcontractors.

- Two professional references required; at least one from a manager or formal leadership.
