Registered Nurse (PICU RN Charge) - Travel/Contract
Location: Denver, Colorado
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Position Details
- Specialty: PICU RN Charge Nurse
- Shift: Nights, 3 shifts per week, 12-hour shifts (19:00 - 07:30)
- Ratios: 1:3 (acuity based; no 3 ventilated patients)
- Unit: Combined Pediatric and PICU (20 pediatric beds, 8 PICU beds)
- Experience Required: Minimum 2 years, charge experience required, Level II trauma experience required
- First-timers: Accepted
- Weekend Requirement: Yes, up to every weekend
- On-call: Yes, 1 mandatory on-call per 4-week schedule (rarely happens)
- Floating: No floating; managing Pediatrics & PICU only
- Charting System: EPIC
- Locals Accepted: Within 75 miles
Licensure & Certifications Required
- Colorado or Compact RN License
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
Work & Time Off Policies
- Return to Office (RTO) preferred 5 days or less
- No Christmas RTO between 12/24 - 12/27
Patient Care Information
- Typical assignment: 3 patients (e.g., respiratory patients such as HHF or 3 less acute patients)
- New trauma patients: 1:1 ratio, transitioning to 1:2 when less critical
Required Documentation & Compliance (Summary)
- I-9 and E-Verify documentation
- Valid driver's license or government-issued ID
- Proof of name change if applicable
- Residency declaration form if working under Compact Nursing license
- Background check: 7-year search including social security trace, county, national, federal, and Colorado state checks
- Employment application with 7 years of employment history and gap explanations
- Professional references (2 within 3 years)
- State license primary source verification within 30 days of start
- NURSYS verification of state licensure within 30 days of start
- Drug testing: 10-panel within 30 days of start and within 48 hours of contract signing, annual requirement
- Physical exam within 12 months of start, updated annually
- N95 Fit Mask test within 12 months, updated annually
- Immunizations/vaccine records or titers:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years)
- Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella (2 doses or immune titer)
- Hepatitis B (titer or vaccine series)
- Varicella (2 doses or immune titer)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year (QuantiFERON, T-Spot, or 2-step PPD)
- TB questionnaire required unless working in specific departments
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required annually
- COVID-19 exemption accepted for medical or religious reasons
- Annual competency exams and medication/pharmacology competency tests
- OSHA mandatory training for clinical positions
- Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) training for applicable roles
- Other certifications may be required depending on unit/job description (e.g., CCRN, TNCC, NRP)

- No floating outside Pediatrics & PICU
- Charge nurse role with trauma and pediatric critical care experience mandatory
- Flexible mid-October start date
