Job Opportunity: Medical Lab Technician
Location: Columbia, South Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Position Details
- Specialty: Laboratory (MLT 2 level)
- Shift: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each, Nights (7 PM - 7 AM)
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
- On-call: No
- Floating: No floating between service lines or sister facilities
Required Qualifications
- Medical Lab Technician with a minimum of 3 years of experience
- Medical Lab Technician experience within the last year
- Completion of at least one travel assignment
- National certification required: ASCP or AMT
Facility & Work Environment
- Free-standing Emergency Department with 10 staffed ED rooms
- Charting system: Epic
- Scrub color: Burgundy
- Parking: Free
- Hurricane season (June-November) may require assignment to emergency response teams
Required Documentation & Compliance
- Proof of work eligibility (I-9 attestation and form)
- Valid Driver’s License or State ID
- Social Security Card or SSN verification
- Background check within 90 days of start, including:
- SSN trace, criminal, sex offender registry, FACIS, and state-specific searches
- Education verification or diploma/transcripts as placeholder
- Drug screening (10-panel) within 90 days of start
- Physical exam within 90 days of start, updated annually, confirming ability to meet job demands
- Immunizations and health screenings:
- Tdap vaccine within 10 years or declination form
- Negative TB test (T-spot or Q-Gold) within 90 days or proof of prior positive with chest x-ray
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella immunity or vaccination
- Hepatitis B titer, vaccine series, or declination
- Flu vaccine required during flu season (Aug-April) or medical/religious exemption (no declinations accepted)
- COVID-19 vaccination highly preferred; declination form required if not vaccinated
- Respirator medical clearance annually (RespSafety questionnaire)
- Radiation badge if required by unit (process may take 5-7 days)
- References: Minimum 2 clinical references, including at least one from the unit of assignment
- Employment history verification for last 3 clinical employers
Additional Requirements
- Completion of facility-specific orientation modules prior to start (approx. 2-6 hours)
- Passport-style photo for badge (frontal view, solid light background)
- Completion of facility-specific forms including confidentiality and security agreements
- Skills checklist updated annually
- Medication/pharmacology competency exam as applicable
Notes
- Locals may be considered on a case-by-case basis
- Facility may call off 1 shift per 2 weeks
- No floating or on-call duties required
- Must be prepared for potential emergency response duties during hurricane season
