Registered Nurse - Stepdown Cardiac
Location: Dayton, Ohio
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- This is a 48-hour contract position; overtime is paid after 48 hours.
- Applicants must have documented Stepdown (SD) or Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience with a 1:5 patient ratio in their work history. ICU experience does not count toward SD/PCU experience.
- Targeted patient ratios are 1:5 to 1:6.
- Typical patients include heart failure, chest pain rule out, NSTEMI, post-procedure patients, COPD exacerbation, drug/alcohol overdose and withdrawal.
- Nurses must be competent in running IV drips such as heparin, nitroglycerin, amiodarone, Cardizem, insulin, etc.
- Nurses will be fitted for N95 masks prior to working on the unit unless PAPR is offered/needed.
- Traveler will be the first to float at the employer’s discretion, floating within specialty clusters or to nearby campuses within 15 miles.
- Must be available to work every other weekend and holidays.
- The employer reserves the right to cancel shifts or the contract with notice.
- Travelers are not eligible for employee incentives.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Ohio Registered Nurse (RN) license.
- Minimum 1.5 years of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience, with PCU experience within the last year.
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing.
- ACLS certification issued by the American Heart Association.
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association.
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification.
- Experience with Epic electronic health record system.
- State License 1 Verification.
- NURSYS Verification (RN, LPN/LVN, AP).
Certifications & Competencies
- BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA certified.
- NIH Stroke Certification - must be current within 12 months.
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) preferred.
- Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam required within 1 year or must be completed within 72 hours of contract signing.
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exam within 2 years.
- Other unit-specific competency exams as required.
Additional Requirements
- Must submit a current resume/application.
- Two professional references required, including one manager/supervisor or charge nurse.
- Background checks including 7-year criminal history, EPLS/GSA/SAM, and HHS/OIG required.
- Physical exam within 2 years indicating fitness to work.
- Negative drug screen (9 or 10 panel including marijuana) within 12 months.
- Immunizations and health documents including TB test or chest x-ray, MMR, Varicella, Hepatitis B vaccination or declination, flu vaccination or approved exemption.
- Respiratory protection medical questionnaire and clearance required.
- Government-issued photo ID required.
- Education verification as applicable.
Work Environment
- Unit dress code: Navy blue scrubs.
- Floating may include multiple nearby campuses within 15 miles.
- Typical patient census: approximately 31 patients daily.
Notes
- Prior Stepdown/PCU experience is mandatory; ICU experience alone will not qualify.
- Travel experience is preferred but not mandatory.
- Must be able to work every other weekend and holidays.
- Floating assignments will be medically appropriate and at employer discretion.
