Registered Nurse – Hematology Clinic (Travel/Contract)
Location: Charlotte, North Carolina
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM (5x8 hours)
Patient Population: Adult benign hematology (bleeding disorders, hemophilia, anemias, sickle cell, DVTs) – no malignant hematology or oncology
Job Description
- Work in an outpatient hematology clinic focused on non-malignant hematology conditions.
- Responsibilities include rooming patients, phlebotomy, central line care, assisting with bone marrow biopsies, vaccinations, EKGs, phone triage, scheduling for infusions, patient education, phone calls, and case management.
- Manual differentials are performed by lab personnel, not RNs.
- Chemotherapy and infusions are not administered in this clinic.
- RNs must bring their own stethoscope.
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in North Carolina.
- Minimum 1 year of hematology/oncology nursing experience, with experience within the last year.
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
- Phlebotomy skills.
- Experience assisting with bone marrow biopsies.
- Case management experience.
- Experience with Epic electronic medical record system.
Preferred Qualifications
- Oncology clinic experience preferred.
- Certifications such as ONS, BMTCN, or OCN are a plus but not required.
Orientation & Systems
- Unit orientation: 24 hours.
- Electronic Medical Record system: EPIC (acute activation user access required).
- Average daily patient census: ~70.
- No call, float, or weekend requirements.
- Clinic closed on major holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year’s Day, Martin Luther King Day).
Compliance & Documentation Requirements
- Background checks including local, federal, national criminal, DOJ sex offender, and education verification required within 90 days of start.
- Drug screening (10-panel) required within 30 days of start.
- Physical exam within 1 year of start; if past positive TB, additional requirements apply.
- Fit testing for N95 mask or completion of PAPR training required.
- Immunizations/titers required: Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B (with facility-specific declination if titer negative), and seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption.
- TB testing (PPD, Qgold, or Tspot) within 1 year; if positive, chest x-ray and physician-signed TB questionnaire required annually.
- Annual compliance training and facility-specific education modules required.
- Medication safety training and competency exams as applicable.
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam not required for this outpatient clinic setting.
- References: 2 professional references within 3 years required for travel nurses.
- Employment application must be uploaded.

- Navy blue scrubs required; scrubs not provided.
- Interview with manager required prior to offer.
- Candidate must provide a passport-style photo on a white background for badge creation.
- Must complete facility confidentiality agreement and other required facility-specific documents prior to start.
- Flu exemption requests are reviewed on a case-by-case basis; approved exemptions require mask-wearing on campus.
- RNs must bring their own stethoscope.
