NICU Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position
Location: Olympia, Washington
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Night, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM - 7:30 AM)
Hours per Week: 36
Job Summary
- Level II NICU caring for infants 32 weeks gestation and older (earlier gestation stabilized and transferred)
- Patient conditions include Respiratory Distress Syndrome (RDS), Sepsis, Neonatal Opioid Withdrawal Syndrome (NOWS/NAS), hyperbilirubinemia, hypoglycemia, failure to thrive, and IV antibiotic administration
- Short-term intubation performed onsite; long-term intubations transferred out
- IVs performed by staff with VAT backup
- Nutrition support includes PPN/Lipids and EPIVs
Float Requirements
- Potential to float to Postpartum to care for stable couplets; orientation provided if no prior couplet experience
- May float to Pediatrics with a 1:3 nurse-to-patient ratio, caring for bili babies, feeder/growers, and failure to thrive patients (no critically ill or respiratory patients)
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Washington
- Minimum 2 years of Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) experience, with NICU experience within the last year
- Completion of at least one travel nursing assignment
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association or Canadian Heart and Stroke Foundation
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification
Additional Requirements
- Local candidates residing within 50 miles of the facility are not eligible for this travel contract
- No on-call required
- Must provide government-issued photo ID and Social Security Card as applicable
- Background check within 90 days covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years required; must be updated annually
- Drug screening (9-panel) within 12 months required
- Physical exam within 1 year, signed by MD, NP, PA, or DO, confirming ability to work with or without accommodation
- Immunizations and health screenings required:
- TDAP within 10 years (declination accepted)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months, updated annually
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titer
- Hepatitis B vaccination or signed declination
- Varicella vaccination or positive titer
- Seasonal flu vaccine during flu season (declination accepted)
- COVID vaccination record preferred (declinations not required)
- Respirator medical clearance required annually for travel candidates
- Fit mask testing required for travel candidates, updated annually
- References: Minimum 2 references covering 1 year of employment in a comparable specialty/setting within the last 3 years
- Employment application covering at least last 5 years required
