Job Opportunity: Med/Surgical Float Pool Nurse

Location: Columbus, Ohio
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Summary

Provide high-quality nursing care in a Med/Surgical setting with flexibility to float within units of equivalent or lower acuity as needed. The position requires availability for weekdays, some weekends, and holidays.

Schedule:

• 3 shifts per week
• 12-hour shifts (7:00 AM – 7:30 PM)
• Total 36 hours per week

Responsibilities

• Deliver nursing care to Med/Surgical patients
• Float between units as needed
• Manage patient ratios of approximately 1:4-5
• Collaborate effectively with team members
• Maintain strong communication and organizational skills

Required Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Ohio
• Minimum 2 years of Med/Surgical and Telemetry nursing experience, with experience within the last year
• BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• Experience with Epic electronic health records system

Certifications & Competencies

• BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA provider or instructor accepted
• Medication/Pharmacology Competency Exam (required prior to start)
• Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam (required within 1 year of start and annually thereafter)
• Unit-specific competency exams as required

Background & Screening Requirements

• 7-year criminal background check including FBI and BCI fingerprinting (must be completed within 1 year of start)
• Education accreditation verification from an accredited nursing program (CCNE, ACEN, or NLN CNEA)
• Drug screening: Negative 10-panel drug test within 3 months of start (includes amphetamines, benzodiazepines, cannabinoids, cocaine, opiates, etc.)
• Employment application and skills checklist required
• Two professional references required (at least one from a manager or formal leadership)

Health & Immunization Requirements

• Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming good health and free of contagious disease
• Immunizations or titers for:

  • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella)
  • Varicella
  • Hepatitis B (titer or vaccine series)
  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (adult dose after age 11/12)
• Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 1 year of start, or TB questionnaire in lieu of annual testing
• Seasonal flu vaccination or documented declination during flu season (Oct 1 - Mar 31)
• COVID-19 vaccination not required but strongly recommended

Additional Notes

• Must be able to complete fingerprinting using the specified state codes and processes
• Background check and fingerprinting results must be clear prior to start; pending results require attestation
• Candidates must review and sign facility-specific policies including dress code, hand hygiene, ethics, and compliance annually
• Prior travel experience is not explicitly required for this position
