Job Opportunity: ICU Registered Nurse

Location: Redlands, California
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

Seeking an ICU Registered Nurse for a community hospital ICU setting. The role includes provider support with interpretation services, lift teams, pharmacy, phlebotomy, physical therapy, radiology, rapid response teams, respiratory services, social services, transportation, and unit secretary.

  • On call, weekends, and float required
  • Documentation using Meditech
  • Communication using SBAR
  • Dress code: plain blue scrubs (not provided, no logos)

Required Experience & Skills

  • Minimum 2 years ICU nursing experience (higher value from description)

  • First-time travelers will be considered (prior travel experience NOT required)

  • Required skills and experience include:

    • Interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
    • Multi-system organ failure
    • Post cardiac surgery care (not directly from OR)
    • IV insulin protocols
    • GI surgery care
    • Chronic and acute renal failure management
    • Accessing ports
    • Arterial line management
    • Blood product administration
    • Central line and PICC line care/management
    • Starting IVs
    • Continuous IV sedation and procedural sedation administration
    • Titration of cardiac and vasoactive drips
    • CVA/acute stroke management
    • External ventricular drains (EVD)
    • Hypothermia protocol/Arctic Sun
    • ICP monitoring
    • Post neurosurgery management
    • Traumatic brain injury care
    • Assist with BiPAP and CPAP management
    • Assist with chest tube insertion/removal
    • Care of ventilated patients
    • High flow nasal cannula (HFNC)
    • Interpretation of ABGs
    • Suctioning (ETT, NT)
    • Ventilator management
    • Infection prevention and isolation precautions/PPE use
    • Phlebotomy
    • Surgical wounds with drains/wound vac
  • Preferred skills:

    • Neuro Intensive Care Unit experience
    • Surgical Intensive Care Unit experience
    • ECMO
    • Post cardiac surgery directly from OR
    • Pre/post cardiac catheterization/intervention
    • Pulmonary artery line/Swan Ganz monitoring
    • Sheath removal

Required Certifications

  • ACLS (AHA only; RQI not acceptable)
  • BLS (AHA only; RQI not acceptable)
  • NIH Stroke Certification

Required Licenses

  • Valid Registered Nurse license for California

Additional Requirements

  • Must comply with on-call, weekend, and float shifts
  • Must adhere to dress code (plain blue scrubs, no logos)
  • Must complete background checks and verifications as required
  • Must provide required health documents including immunizations, TB screening, drug testing, and physical exam
  • Must complete facility-specific acknowledgments and training (e.g., safety manual, abuse reporting, confidentiality agreements)
  • Fit testing for approved masks required prior to start
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or declination required
  • COVID vaccination plus booster or approved exemption required

Requirements / Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in California
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Minimum 2 years of ICU (Intensive Care Unit) experience, including experience within the last year
  • ACLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
  • Interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
  • Management of multi-system organ failure
  • Accessing ports
  • Arterial line management
  • Central line care and management
  • PICC line management
  • Administration of continuous IV sedation and procedural sedation
  • Titration of cardiac drips
  • Titration of vasoactive drips
