Job Summary

Seeking a Step-Down Registered Nurse with at least 1 year of recent Step-Down experience. Preferred candidates have 1 year post cardiac catheterization experience. This role involves caring for patients with cardiac and respiratory conditions in a step-down unit setting.

Patient Population / Diagnoses

• Congestive Heart Failure (CHF)
• Post heart catheterization
• Post vascular procedures
• Respiratory failure (BiPAP / CPAP / Vapotherm)
• Cardiac dysrhythmias

Unit Procedures / Expectations

• Post-heart catheter care
• TR bands management
• Post-vascular procedure monitoring
• Frequent vital signs and neurovascular checks

Required Certifications

• BLS (Basic Life Support)
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
• NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale)

Required Skills

Cardiac / Emergency:

• Cardiac monitoring
• Dysrhythmia interpretation and management
• 12-lead EKG/ECG

IV / Vascular:

• IV start and maintenance
• PICC line management
• Blood product administration

Medications:

• Emergency medications
• Procedural sedation administration and monitoring
• Cardiac drip titration

Neurological:

• CVA / Acute Stroke management

Respiratory / Thoracic:

• BiPAP / CPAP management
• Assist with chest tube insertion/removal

Professional Skills

• Infection prevention
• Isolation precautions / PPE
• Phlebotomy

Required Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse license in New York
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• Minimum 1 year of Step-Down nursing experience within the last year
• Current BLS and ACLS certifications issued by the American Heart Association
• NIHSS certification
• Proficient in dysrhythmia management
• Experience with PICC line management
• Skilled in procedural sedation administration and monitoring
• Competent in cardiac drip titration
• Knowledgeable in CVA / Acute Stroke management
• Experienced in BiPAP / CPAP management
• Ability to assist with chest tube insertion and removal

Scheduling

• 36 or 48 hour shifts
• Every other week (EOW) and every other weekend (EOH) scheduling
• No blocked scheduling
• Local candidates accepted

Additional Notes

• Medication system used: Pyxis
• Nurses are responsible for independently measuring telemetry strips and accurately interpreting cardiac rhythms as telemetry technicians are not employed on the unit

This position is ideal for experienced Step-Down RNs comfortable with cardiac and respiratory patient care, telemetry monitoring, and post-procedure nursing.
