Job Opportunity: ICU Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Location: Valdosta, Georgia
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 8 weeks


Job Summary

Seeking an ICU Registered Nurse with a minimum of 2 years of experience. First-time travel nurses are welcome to apply. The position involves floating between Critical Care Unit (CPU), Progressive Care Unit (PCU), and Medical-Surgical/Telemetry units with a patient load of up to 4 patients.


Patient Population

  • Pediatrics
  • Adults
  • Geriatrics

Patient Diagnoses

  • Medical ICU and Surgical ICU patients (excluding cardiac and occasional pediatrics)
  • Post code, post stroke, TPA administration
  • Respiratory failure
  • Dialysis patients

Schedule Requirements

  • Float required between CPU, PCU, and MS/Telemetry units
  • Every other weekend coverage

Medication and Documentation Systems

  • Medication system: Omnicell
  • Documentation system: EPIC

Required Certifications

  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA only
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA or American Red Cross
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) preferred

Required Skills

  • Interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
  • Care of ventilated patients

Shift Details

  • Shift options: 8, 10, or 12 hours with incremental called-off hour rules per 2-week period
  • Guaranteed hours vary by shift length (e.g., 3 or 4 twelve-hour shifts)

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Georgia
  • Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
  • Minimum 2 years ICU nursing experience, including experience within the last year
  • ACLS issued by American Heart Association
  • BLS issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) certification
  • NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale) certification
  • Interpretation and management of dysrhythmias

Health and Compliance Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start, renewed yearly
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year (with exceptions for breaks in assignments)
  • Required immunizations or positive titers: Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella
  • Flu vaccination or approved exemption required during flu season
  • Negative 10-panel drug screen within 30 days of start (including Marijuana/THC)
  • Mask fit testing completed at orientation

Background and Documentation

  • Background check within 30 days of start including SSN trace, 7-year county residence, nationwide search, sex offender search
  • Copy of official transcript or diploma required
  • Photo for badge (passport style, white background, no selfies)
  • Employment application and 2 professional references required

Additional Facility-Specific Requirements

  • EPIC testing on day 1
  • Pass/fail testing on EKG, medication, and critical care exams during orientation
  • Competency check-off prior to start
  • Scrub color coding by unit (e.g., Emergency Department: Royal Blue; Women/Children: Pink; Med/Surg and others: Ceil Blue)
  • Completion of required online learning modules prior to start
  • Compliance with drug and alcohol policy, confidentiality agreement, and facility handbook

Notes

  • Fingerprinting through Georgia GCHEXS system is not required for RNs
  • CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) certification required only for ER travelers after 1 year at the facility
  • Travelers cannot start with pending background or fingerprint results
