Registered Nurse - Medical Surgical/Telemetry

Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Description

• Option for 36 or 48-hour shifts
• 13 or 26 week contract options available
• Frequent floating required to meet staffing needs, including to multiple units such as medical surgical, telemetry, ortho, neuro, trauma, observation, and behavioral health floors
• Patient population includes total knee and hip replacements, complicated orthopedic cases, pulmonary, sepsis, GI, endocrine, cardiac, renal, and psychiatric illnesses
• Behavioral health patients on some floors; training provided for safety and de-escalation
• Nurse-to-patient ratios: 1:5 days / 1:6 nights (rarely 1:7 nights)
• Drip medication administration required on all floors
• EPIC charting experience required
• First-time travelers not accepted unless with 2 years experience at a Level I Academic Medical Center
• 100% nicotine-free facility
• Weekend shifts required: 4 out of 8 possible in a 4-week period
• Holiday work requirement: must work 2 out of 3 major holidays
• Locals not accepted (must live more than 100 miles from facility)
• Pending license accepted but must be in hand before start; booking six weeks out if not

Required Qualifications

• Registered Nurse license valid in Nebraska
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience in a large, urban hospital setting
• BLS certification required
• ACLS and CPI certifications preferred
• Experience with drips and EPIC electronic medical records required
• Comfortable caring for behavioral health patients, including those flagged as potentially violent
• Prior travel experience: Not explicitly required, but first-time travelers generally not accepted unless with specific experience noted

Additional Requirements & Information

• Must wear facility-specific scrubs (Steele gray)
• Background check, drug screening, and various health documents required (including immunizations and TB testing)
• Physical exam and fit mask test required annually
• Various certifications and verifications required prior to start (e.g., NURSYS verification, orientation safety manual acknowledgment)
• Government-issued photo ID required
• Parking permit available for purchase or daily parking options
• Up to two weeks of time off allowed with manager approval
• Training provided for safety and de-escalation on behavioral health units

Work Environment

• Acute care hospital setting with complex patient population
• Team includes CNAs, care techs, transport team, paramedics, and LPNs on some floors
• Floating to multiple units within the hospital system required
• Secure behavioral health floors with specialized patient population
