Job Description

• Order Filling: Accurately and promptly fills medication orders for pharmacist review and dispensing. Prepares extemporaneous preparations. Stocks and replenishes carts, trays, boxes, and kits. Documents and notes issues on patient profiles for pharmacist follow-up. Performs cart/bin exchanges and manages medication returns and expiration checks.

• Distribution/Returns: Handles medication requests professionally via phone, window, fax, and computer. Delivers medications using pneumatic tubes, hand delivery, or courier. Sorts and processes returns from nursing stations.

• Teamwork: Supports departmental goals, assists staff, and complies with coverage guidelines. Actively supports strategic goals.

• Sterile Preparations: Prepares IV medications aseptically and efficiently. Manages batching, documentation, and storage of IV medications. Demonstrates knowledge of IV equipment, sterile technique, total parenteral nutrition, and safe handling of hazardous drugs.

• Automated Dispensing Machines: Accurately fills machines, resolves discrepancies, removes expired medications, and performs monthly inspections. Handles equipment issues or escalates as needed.

• Repackaging/Inventory Control: Repackages oral medications, ensures barcoding, checks expirations, manages recalled medications, and maintains supply organization.

• Performance Improvement/Customer Satisfaction: Provides courteous and professional communication. Handles problems independently. Participates in performance improvement and cost-saving initiatives. Works collaboratively with pharmacists and healthcare team members.

Requirements

• Valid Pharmacy Technician license in New Jersey
• Pharmacy Technician with a minimum of 2 years of experience
• Pharmacy Technician experience within the last year
• High school diploma or equivalent
