Pathologist Assistant

Job Summary

The Pathologist Assistant provides anatomic pathology services under the direction and supervision of a Pathologist. Responsibilities include assisting in the preparation and performance of human surgical specimen dissection and postmortem examinations, submission of samples, and dictation of gross findings.

Key Responsibilities

Preparation, gross description, and dissection of human tissue surgical specimens
Assisting with frozen section evaluation
Performing gross examination and selection of tissue
Cryotomy of specimens and subsequent staining for intraoperative evaluation by a Pathologist
Preparation and performance of human postmortem examinations

Required Qualifications

Minimum 1 year of experience as a Pathology Assistant within the last year
Completion of a Pathology Assistance Training Program
Certification as a Pathologist's Assistant by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP)
