Days, Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM (or up to 6:00 PM with flexibility)

Job Summary

  • Provide direct patient care using the nursing process.
  • Responsible for prescribing, delegating, and coordinating care for assigned patients.
  • Deliver care based on established nursing standards, hospital policies, and multidisciplinary practices.
  • Diagnose and treat human responses to actual and potential health problems through case finding, health teaching, counseling, and supportive/restorative care.
  • Supervise care provided by LPNs, RNs on permit, nursing attendants, technicians, and supplemental staff.

Responsibilities

  • Assess immediate and ongoing care needs of patients and their significant others.
  • Develop comprehensive, current care plans addressing physical, psychosocial, spiritual, teaching, and discharge needs.
  • Provide and oversee direct patient care aligned with medical regimens.
  • Observe, evaluate, document, and communicate patient responses to illness and treatments; ensure timely reassessment with changes in condition.
  • Coordinate overall care plans with multidisciplinary teams, establishing priorities and follow-up actions.
  • Integrate age-specific care needs (e.g., pediatrics, geriatrics) into care plans.
  • Accept accountability for nursing interventions and outcomes based on clinical judgment.
  • Participate in quality improvement activities related to patient care and nursing standards.
  • Communicate effectively, manage stress, and facilitate interdisciplinary relationships.
  • Participate in orientation of nursing staff and assume charge responsibilities as delegated.
  • Ensure appropriate patient coverage by assisting co-workers and working on other units as needed.
  • Maintain a safe, therapeutic environment for patients, families, and staff.
  • Serve as a clinical resource for student nurses.
  • Engage in meetings, committees, educational programs, research, and pilot projects.
  • Pursue continuing professional growth, including education and certifications.
  • Participate in professional and community organizations.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years of critical care nursing experience.
  • Knowledge and competency in interventional and diagnostic radiology procedures.
  • Ability to fully utilize electronic medical record systems, healthcare equipment, and billing systems relevant to the role.
  • Good interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to collaborate with physicians for procedures such as TEE and loop recorder implants.
  • Current RN license valid in New York State.
