Registered Nurse (RN) - Stepdown Unit (Contract)
Location: New York, NY
Employment Type: Contract (Staffing - Supplier Sourced)
Shift: Day shift, 7:00 AM – 7:30 PM, every other week (EOW)
Contract Length: Approximately 14 weeks (96 days)
Job Summary
Provide safe, competent, and quality nursing care to a designated group of patients using nursing theory, research, and evidence-based practice. Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care.
Key Responsibilities
Patient Care
- Deliver nursing care based on Relationship Centered Care and nursing process.
- Assess and evaluate patient needs using critical thinking.
- Integrate assessment and intervention skills in care delivery.
- Collaborate with healthcare team on care plans.
- Prioritize patient care including teaching, rounding, coaching, and discharge planning.
- Educate patients and caregivers on care plans, health promotion, and disease prevention.
- Communicate professionally with patients, families, and care team members.
- Manage assignments within Modified Primary Nursing care delivery model.
Patient Experience
- Facilitate patient-centered care activities such as Admission Welcome, Bedside Shift Report, Purposeful Hourly Rounding, and Discharge Wrap Up.
- Respect patient values, preferences, cultural diversity, and expressed needs.
- Establish therapeutic relationships with patients and families.
- Use evidence-based practices to understand patient perceptions of care.
- Address patient and family concerns and escalate as needed.
- Demonstrate caring, respect, compassion, empathy, and active listening.
Quality and Safety
- Practice safe, efficient, patient-centered care.
- Demonstrate clinical skills essential to quality and safety.
- Participate in process improvement, peer review, and quality initiatives.
- Identify and avoid high-risk behaviors to maintain a safe environment.
- Escalate safety hazards following institutional protocols.
- Document nursing practice accurately to support quality improvement.
Operations
- Perform charge nurse duties as assigned.
- Coordinate supply and inventory management with leadership.
- Escalate material or staffing shortages appropriately.
- Use patient-focused, cost-effective approaches to resource utilization.
- Document thoroughly in compliance with regulatory and legal standards.
- Facilitate patient throughput during shifts.

- Support clinical colleagues, patients, families, and healthcare team members.
- Advance clinical competence from novice to expert.
- Maintain a professional image and communicate with empathy and respect.
- Apply ethical principles in decision-making.

Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in New York State.
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
- Minimum 1 year of recent experience in a Progressive Care Unit (PCU).
