Registered Nurse – Intermediate Care

Location: Duluth, Minnesota

Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Overview

• Work on a 22-bed Intermediate Care (IMC) unit with patient ratios:

  • Days: 1 nurse to 4-5 patients
  • Nights: 1 nurse to 5-6 patients
• Care for complex medical patients including those with ETOH (alcohol-related issues), CVA (stroke), sepsis
• Responsibilities may include wound care, wound vac management, antibiotic therapy, IV starts, neuro assessments, restraints, and collaborative teamwork
• May be assigned as a 1:1 sitter or assist as helping hands
• Float to inpatient units as needed
• Call back minimum of 2 hours when on call
• Weekend and holiday shifts assigned every other weekend or less, depending on unit needs

Shift Details

• 12-hour variable shifts, both day and night
• Typical shift example: 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM
• Guaranteed 36 hours per week (except during holidays or orientation week)
• Low census hours (up to 36) are unbillable but guaranteed

Requirements

Licensure & Certifications

• Minnesota Registered Nurse (RN) License
• BLS (AHA/ARC)
• ACLS (AHA/ARC)
• NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification

Experience

• Minimum 1 year of Intermediate Care (IMC) nursing experience
• Preferred experience with Epic electronic charting system
• Prior travel experience is preferred, especially for winter start dates in colder climates (Midwest, Northeast, Mountain regions) to ensure reliability during weather events

• Candidates must live outside a 50-mile radius of the facility
• Must be resilient, able to manage change well, work independently, and complete tasks timely
• Team-oriented with shared responsibility for call lights and alarms
• Scrub color: Royal Blue
