Registered Nurse (Med/Surg) - Labor Pool

Location: Albany, Georgia
Contract Length: 17 weeks


Job Overview

Seeking a Med/Surg Registered Nurse for day shifts on a 17-week contract. This position is part of a Labor Pool with floating assignments across various units including Med/Surg, Ortho/Neuro, Oncology, Acute Care, and JFW. Flexibility with changing assignments during shifts is required.


Work Environment & Unit Details

  • Unit: Labor Pool
  • Nurse to patient ratio: 1:6
  • Nurse Aides/CNA ratio: Generally 1:8 to 1:10, with occasional 1:1 and sitters
  • Weekend requirement: Every other weekend
  • Call requirement: On call for low census
  • Holidays: Rotate with permanent staff
  • Shift hours: 6:45 AM, 12-hour shifts
  • Scrub color: Caribbean Blue
  • Telemetry monitored on different units
  • Ventilators used: BIPAP, CPAP (only at high specialty units), Vapotherm, Draeger
  • Respiratory Therapy available 24/7
  • Pharmacy available 24/7
  • IV Team: None, but PICC lines are used
  • Charge nurse role available on all units
  • Floor-specific orientation provided
  • C-section experience: Not applicable
  • Floating required

Common Patient Types

  • Med/Surg patients
  • Floating to Ortho/Neuro, Oncology, Acute Care, and JFW units
  • ICU/ED nurses float to Cardiology, ICU, and ED

Required Certifications & Skills

  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
  • ASLS (Advanced Stroke Life Support)
  • NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale) certification (required for ICU/ED; for Med/Surg, BLS plus ASLS or NIHSS)
  • Experience with Meditech EMR system

Required Experience

  • Minimum 4 years of nursing experience without prior travel assignments
    OR
  • Minimum 2 years of nursing experience plus completion of at least 1 prior travel assignment

Prior travel experience is required if only 2 years of experience is held.


Additional Notes

  • Candidates will interview with a recruiter nurse; no second interview required.
  • Must be flexible with changing assignments during shifts.
  • Strict 75-mile radius commuting rule applies.
  • Location is in a city with a population of approximately 80,000, about 175 miles from Atlanta, GA.
  • Typical work schedule includes a Thursday through Sunday blocked schedule.
