Labor & Delivery Nurse Travel Opportunity - California (San Bernardino)

Job Overview

• Position: Experienced Labor & Delivery (L&D) Nurse
• Location: San Bernardino, California
• Contract Length: 13 weeks
• Unit: Labor & Delivery
• Beds: 14 L&D beds, 2 OR suites (postpartum side), triage done in L&D, 0 postpartum beds
• Births: Average 3-4 births per day (~1100 per year)
• Shifts: 3 times a week, 12-hour night shifts every other week
• Weekend Requirement: 1 weekend every other weekend
• Holiday Requirement: 1 major holiday, 2 minor holidays
• Call Requirement: 1 on-call shift every 2 weeks
• Floating: No floating required
• Orientation: 1 day unit-specific orientation
• Dress Code: Light blue scrubs provided each shift

Required Experience & Certifications

• Minimum 2 years current Labor & Delivery nursing experience
• Active California nursing license
• Certifications:

  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
  • Advanced AWHONN (Association of Women’s Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses)
  • Advanced Fetal Monitoring

Patient Population & Common Diagnoses

• Laboring patients
• Inductions
• Cesarean sections
• Antepartum patients with complications
• Fetal demises
• Triage patients 20 weeks gestation or greater

Clinical Responsibilities

• Follow AWHONN staffing ratio guidelines
• Titrate drips including Pitocin, insulin, magnesium
• Use fetal monitoring system (Fetal link with Cerner)
• Monitor techs and RNs read strips, especially for magnesium patients
• Use pulse oximetry routinely
• Collaborate with in-house OB/Neonatologist 24/7
• Work alongside 1 OB tech and usually a free charge nurse

Additional Information

• Unit uses NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale)
• No postpartum beds on unit
• Triage is performed within the L&D unit
• Charge nurse and house supervisor usually available and free
