Registered Nurse (PCU)

Location: Omaha, Nebraska
Contract Length: 13 weeks (approximately 3 months)
Shift: 12-hour nights (1830-0700)
Unit: Progressive Care Unit (PCU)
Bed Count: 35
Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:4-5
Patient Population: Adults and geriatrics with cardiac, nephrology, stroke, diabetes, and continuous EEG monitoring needs

Job Description

• Night shift PCU RN position on a fast-paced unit
• Nurses are required to titrate drips such as Cardizem, beta blockers, and seizure medications
• Charge nurse present on each shift (charge nurse takes assignment)
• Nurse aides/patient care techs support the unit with ratios approximately 1:10 or 2:20
• Floating may be required to medical floors, ICU, or rehab units
• Orientation includes 1 week onboarding plus 1-2 days of unit-specific orientation
• Weekend requirement: every other weekend
• Holiday requirement: every third holiday
• No call or standby requirements

Required Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years as a Registered Nurse
• Minimum 1 year of experience on a PCU or similar unit
• Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications
• Must pass a skills exam during orientation with a minimum score of 90% (open book)
• Valid driver’s license required (used to verify candidate lives within 50 miles radius)
• Compliance with fingernail policy: artificial nails prohibited in patient care areas

Additional Information

• Positive attitude, strong communication skills, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities are essential for success
• Strict radius rule: candidates must live within 50 miles and cannot be currently employed full time, part time, or PRN with certain affiliated facilities
• Return to office (RTO) required within 7 days of contract start; no additional RTO extensions allowed
