Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - Labor & Delivery

Job Description

Seeking an experienced Labor & Delivery RN for a travel assignment. The role involves working in a hospital setting with a focus on labor and delivery care, including triaging patients as a charge nurse. The patient population includes Level 2 NICU cases (32 weeks and above) and occasional GYN overflow. The unit uses Cerner power chart maternity and Cerner fetal monitoring systems.

Key Details

• Shift Times: 7 AM and 7 PM start times
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend (Friday/Saturday night, Saturday/Sunday day)
• Holidays: Rotate with staff (one of every three major holidays)
• Nurse Aides: OB techs function as aides when no cases
• Floating: To postpartum in rotation with permanent staff
• Orientation: 3 shifts on unit (2 L&D, 1 Mother-Baby)
• Call: Optional call may be required during low census; if on call, must be within 20 minutes of hospital
• Security: Infant security system in place (hugs and kisses system)
• Patient Demographics: Higher socioeconomic status, median maternal age 37, higher volume of Mandarin-speaking patients with translation services available
• Additional Support: Lactation nurses on staff during the day; anesthesia available 24/7 (usually in-house during active labor); private OB/GYN physicians available after hours and weekends

Required Certifications & Licenses

• Active California RN license
• BLS (Basic Life Support)
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
• NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
• Advanced AWHONN certification

Experience Requirements

• Minimum 2 years of Labor & Delivery nursing experience

Additional Information

• Patient-to-nurse ratios follow ACOG and California guidelines (1:3 or 1:4 couplets)
• No IV team; respiratory therapy available 24/7
• Pharmacy available 7 AM to 10:30 PM, then satellite service
• Unit includes new LDRP rooms and older postpartum rooms
• Staff assist with triage and non-stress tests (NST)
• Floating to postpartum unit on a rotating basis
• Sleep room available for call staff
