Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (RN) – Multi Care Unit (MCU)

Location: Prescott Valley, Arizona
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Unit Overview

• Unit Type: Multi Care Unit (MCU) combining ICU, PCU, and Med Surg (MST) acuities on one unit
• Number of Beds: 10
• Patient Acuity Ratios:

  • ICU: 1:2
  • PCU: 1:4
  • Med Surg (MST): 1:5-6 (or 1:3 if no nurse aide available)
• Common Diagnoses:

  • Medical ICU: Sepsis, suicide attempts, drug/alcohol withdrawal, COPD, respiratory arrest, pneumonia, COVID-19, DKA, abnormal blood pressure or heart rate, post-op complications
  • PCU: Non-titratable infusions to maintain heart rate or blood pressure

Required Certifications & Exams

• BLS (Basic Life Support)
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
• Must pass dysrhythmia exam with a minimum score of 80% within two attempts prior to contract signing

Experience Requirements

• Minimum 2 years ICU experience required
• Candidates with 1 year ICU + 1 year PCU/Med Surg experience from larger facilities may be considered if they have strong skills

Skills & Responsibilities

• RNs are required to titrate drips, including sedation, vasopressors, and insulin
• Charge Nurse manages 50 inpatient beds including MST, Pediatrics, and MCU
• Nurse Aides typically care for 10-15 patients; if no aide, RN provides primary care for 3 patients
• Respiratory Therapy support available for vents, BiPAP, CPAP
• RNs must perform 12-lead EKGs and monitor bedside cardiac monitors for ICU patients
• Remote Monitor Techs support PCU and MST patients

Scheduling & Work Conditions

• 12-hour shifts: 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM or 7:30 PM – 7:30 AM
• Weekend requirement: Every other weekend (Friday/Saturday nights or Saturday/Sunday days)
• Holiday rotation to distribute holidays fairly
• Standby/call rotation during low census periods

Floating & Orientation

• Floating required to Emergency Care MST, Pediatric unit (adult MST assignments), and West Campus ICU/PCU to maintain competency
• Two-hour notice given before floating to West Campus
• Orientation includes hospital and unit-specific training based on shift and float assignments

Additional Notes

• Radius rule: Candidates must live within 50 miles and cannot have worked full-time, part-time, or PRN at any affiliated facilities within the past year
• No permanent employment at affiliated facilities within the last 12 months
• Dress code: Any scrub color except camouflage

Required Qualifications Summary

• Registered Nurse (RN) license for Arizona
• Minimum 2 years ICU experience (or equivalent combination with PCU/Med Surg)
• BLS and ACLS certifications
• Successful completion of dysrhythmia exam prior to contract
